I'm probably going to finally pull all the stops out and build myself a new PC here once tax season blows over and my return is filed. I made a mockup of what I'm intending to do on Newegg but I have a few choices as to what I'm going to do. For the record, I'm not changing the processor. Those are the only things that stay unless someone can convince me that i5/i7 isn't stupidly expensive anymore (it still is) or can convince me the 965 is actually worth getting over the 955. The hard drive is already taken care of on my end and I have a spare Win7 Ultimate OEM key up my sleeve for the OS.

I'm going to either get the 5770 there or take my current 9800 GT and SLI it with another one (I found a similar motherboard that supports SLI and the same card I have now and it would cost me roughly 50-60$ less). I don't know whether I should bother with that or just get the 5770 (which I've heard horror stories about, driver-wise). I know absolutely jack shit about RAM timings so I just took a shot in the dark and picked a good set of Corsair RAM with a good speed as a baseline. Suggestions? I'm open to anything regarding cooling etc if it doesn't break the bank and cheaper/better alternatives to the components I picked.

Changing the GPU to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462&cm_re=5770-_-14-150-462-_-Product per reapninja's post.
Looks good so far
Just get a better Psu
550W is more than enough for what I'm doing. People vastly overestimate on the power requirements of their PCs. It depends more on the amperage I have on the 12V rail, and with that Corsair I can't go wrong in any fashion unless I try SLIing something more than my 9800 GT with another one. I could bump it up to a 650 like I did with my current machine, but I doubt it's needed.
I'm at college and they block imageshack, post links and I can help
I'll re-host them on my site.
EDIT: there
change the 5770 to this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150462&cm_re=5770-_-14-150-462-_-Product
other than that looks good, having the 550W leaves you open for an easy future upgrade with a second 5770
Added an addendum for that. I knew XFX was a good company but I don't know why I didn't pick that one to begin with.
Also should I be considering something like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134 to replace the stock cooler on the 955? I've heard they come with rather decent ones to start with, so I'm not sure.

The coolermast hyper 212+ is better.
if you're going to be overclocking, go with the hyper 212+ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&cm_re=hyper_212%2b-_-35-103-065-_-Product
if you 'll be leaving it at stock clocks, the stock cooler will be fine.
Replacing the PSU with http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341018 this one that I got from another thread. Hope the instant savings deal stays there until I get my papers.
Or I could just buy it now. I dunno.
EDIT: Actually at this point I'm not so sure. I think I'll go back to the Corsair since everyone says the cables are stupidly short in the OCZ and the Lian Li mounts the PSU on the bottom.
