The woman who was listed as the world's oldest person has died in a Georgia nursing home at age 116.
Besse Cooper died peacefully Tuesday afternoon in Monroe, according to her son Sidney Cooper. Monroe is about 45 miles east of Atlanta.
Cooper said his mother had been ill over the weekend with a stomach virus, then felt better on Monday. On Tuesday he said she had her hair set and watched a Christmas video, but later had trouble breathing. He said she was put on oxygen in her room and died there about 2 p.m.
She was declared the world's oldest person in January. In May, Guinness World Records learned that Maria Gomes Valentin of Brazil was 48 days older. Valentin died June 21.
Born in 1896, holy shit.
I swear having that title "oldest person" is cursed.
I thought there is a guy in africa who is 120 something years old. I guess he isn't "officially" listed

IIRC, him being the oldest was disputed.

Yeah, all the oldest persons died within years, you're on to something dude...
I swear having that title "oldest person" is cursed.
Yeah they tend to die not too long after getting the title for some reason.
There's a new oldest person every week. I mean no offense but it's true.
IIRC, him being the oldest was disputed.
If he is what he said he is then that makes him the oldest person to ever live that's ever been recorded in history right? Yeah he's probably not telling the truth. If he is though, wow.

It would be quite a thing if it does check out.

This was the oldest current living person, according to wikipedia, the oldest confirmed person ever was "Jeanne Calment" at 122 years old.

Pffft, there's a new youngest person pretty much every second.
Imagine going from 1896 all the way through to 2012. The advancements that went by before her must've been a remarkable experience.
There's a new oldest person every week. I mean no offense but it's true.
No. This one was oldest for several months.
to think of the all things she lived to see invented.
Why did you disagree? Did you read the article?
She was declared the world's oldest person in January. In May, Guinness World Records learned that Maria Gomes Valentin of Brazil was 48 days older. Valentin died June 21.
So she was the oldest person since June. That's several months.
when she was a child people were flipping out that someone invented flying
and she lived all the way until now
shit
I hope she had a good time. She must've had a lot of amazing stories to tell. I have always wanted to live to be that old so that on my death bed, if someone asked me "how have you made it this far?" I could say something ridiculous like "Virgin sacrifices" right before passing on to eternity.

Yea but young people don't live very young, old people live to be 65+
Yea but young people don't live very young, old people live to be 65+
Just think, in the future this joke might not make any sense to those that may live forever
I bet at that age you are happy to die. Being so old, fragile and independant seems like a curse to me.
I'm not sure why but the "Christmas video" part made me the saddest.
[sp]I wonder if that really set in the whole "My god, I'm 116" thing for her before she died...[/sp]
Wow, 116, that's a lot.
My great grandma is almost 103 years old now, to go all the way to 116 just seems amazing.
IIRC, him being the oldest was disputed.
Why don't we just cut him in half and count the rings?
thats the oldest person in the world?
you may not believe, but theres a granny near my town that has 119 years
the problem is back in those years, they were so rural they didnt even took their kids to the civil register, so they were officialy like 0 years old at 9 biological years
I know I'll have people disagree with me, but I wish 100 years old was our midlife crisis. Think about it, living so long would be cool because then people could take their time learning and living, instead of rushing everything.

Check his rings
Think of all the things she's experienced. The wars, the people she's met, the society that's changed...
Wow, 116, that's a lot.

The difference is 13 years and that's barely nothing...

Motivate her to go to 117
