Soo I have wireless and I wanted to switch to ethernet. So me and my buddy ran ~75 feet of ethernet through my basement and up to my room and plug it into my PC. This is what the connection looks like. Modem<-->Router<--->PC For some reason it hates that. It will recognize that it's plugged into something, but won't connect to the network. BUT. When I plug directly from the modem to my PC, it works just fine. Looks like dis. Modem<---->PC I have tried plugging it into a switch, then router, then PC, but the same problem persists. Looks like dis. Modem<--->Router<--->Switch<--->PC I have tried two different routers, but have the same problem. I used a Netgear WGR614 v6, and some wireless n Belkin. If you need the exact model on that one I'll get it for you. I have tried changing the IP and DNS on the Ethernet port accordingly to work with the IP on the routers, but this has not worked either. If you need more info, just ask. Thanks in advance!

Anybody?
Set your IP address to obtain automatically. Try ipconfig /flushdns, if that doesn't work try the commands ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew.

Maybe try resetting the router as well. Also, make sure your modem and router do not have the same IP (A lot of them will default to a x.x.x.1 address).
Maybe try resetting the router as well. Also, make sure your modem and router do not have the same IP (A lot of them will default to a x.x.x.1 address).
He has other computers attached to the router already. Also there ip addresses are different.
He has other computers attached to the router already. Also there ip addresses are different.
He does not mention other devices on the router. Also, he only said he checked the IP's of the computer and the router, not the modem.
He does not mention other devices on the router. Also, he only said he checked the IP's of the computer and the router, not the modem.
Yeah he didn't mention it but I was at his house yesterday trying to help him get it working. My idea is that the router is not putting out enough power for the length of the cable but the modem is. Does that sound right or no? Also I changed the ip addresses my self his router is like 10.0.0.1 while his modem is 192.168.1.254
Did you add a route in the router to 192.168.1.254 then? If the router doesn't know about the second subnet then that's your issue. Depending on the router, it's probably easier to just make the modem and router in the same range, rather than try to jury rig a route to a port on a device who's firmware doesn't support it.

I might help him change that soon.
Should I try port forwarding?
Won't help for this situation. All you have to do is put them in the same subnet with a mask 255.255.255.0 (or .252 if you're feeling frisky.)

We are just trying shutting off the dhcp server in the router and letting the modem assign ip addresses.
Have you tried messing around with NAT and ensuring UPnP is activated on the router?
Have you tried messing around with NAT and ensuring UPnP is activated on the router?
Not yet we will try that.
Well the subnet mask is the same on all of them. We are just trying shutting off the dhcp server in the router and letting the modem assign ip addresses.
The mask can be the same but if the addresses are not in the same range it won't matter.
Bumping for the sole reason of asking if you fixed the problem?
Bumping for the sole reason of asking if you fixed the problem?
Not yet we are going to work on the range and I am calling the networking guy at my dads work and we are going to try another router.
^He's a good useful friend.
