First I'd like to say; I do have a genuine and legit copy of Windows 7. Well, basically, today when I started my PC and logged in, a popup box came up saying "YOUR COPY OF WINDOWS IS NOT GENUINE. BLA BLA BLA. Well, this scared me shitless. So I quickly pressed "Ask me later". My desktop loaded up fine. Then Microsoft Security Essentials started screaming about how "YOU MAY BE A VICTIM OF COUNTERFEIT." I opened MSE, and read around. I also checked the properties of my PC, and it told me that Windows was activated. Anyway, MSE redirected me to Microsoft's website, where it told me to download a file called WindowsActivationUpdate.exe I did, I ran it, I rebooted, and now everything works again. What the fuck. Happened to my built computer, did you build yours?
Indeed I did. Six months ago. That's also when I activated Windows. (Quite obviously).
You should probably scan that file, when windows detects a computer isn't activated it removes the wallpaper and makes it black. This might be fake.
Eh, mine went back to normal too.. But.. I activated Win7 on a faulty HDD, so I activated my serial again after I got a new HDD. Maybe you did too?

No, I mean when I first built my computer, I installed Win7. And the HDD was screwed up. So I replaced it and then activated Win7 again...

This might be fake.
Doubt it. I run virus scans daily, never look at porn and never download anything that may include viruses. Plus the small fact that I downloaded it from the official Microsoft site. [editline]08:52AM[/editline]
No, I mean when I first built my computer, I installed Win7. I first installed it on my old 120GB HDD, I then bought a new 500GB drive, and installed it on that... [editline]08:54AM[/editline] Here's a person from another forum who had the same thing happen to him/her: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7install/thread/18807b55-f772-41cc-8d52-a891fc1ac3d9 Only exception is that it worked flawlessly for me. [editline]08:56AM[/editline] And here's the link to the validation file: http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/default.aspx?displaylang=en&PartnerID=258&sGuid=16852098-1a70-4474-97c6-ab71586eee8c

Windows was just being paranoid that you might have installed it on another computer. I had to fix this through the call-Microsoft method, though, because the computer I was on had no internet connection. The EXE file updates the activation hash of the computer and re-activates Windows for you. Summary: Windows was overly paranoid and forced you to re-activate because you reinstalled Windows on a new hard drive.
