They missed saying goodbye to grandparents, and in one case, a father, before those loved ones passed away. But three women who were released from prison on Monday after spending more than a decade behind bars – for crimes they say they didn’t commit – said they relished their new-found freedom and would continue fighting for their full exoneration. “I got to meet my son for the first time since he was 4,” said Liz Ramirez, 39, who along with the other women spoke with NBC News on Tuesday in their first interview since their release. “It was an amazing feeling, being in his arms.” Ramirez, Kristie Mayhugh, 40, and Cassandra Rivera, 38, along with Anna Vasquez, 38, were found guilty of molesting two girls in alleged assaults in 1994 that an expert has described as reminiscent of the Satanic ritual day care abuse cases of the 1980s and early 1990s. The women, known nationally as the “San Antonio 4,” always maintained their innocence. On Monday, after the district attorney agreed the group was entitled to a new trial on the grounds that recent scientific advances undermined testimony pivotal to their convictions, Ramirez, Mayhugh and Rivera were released on bond. Vasquez was paroled last year.
They should get a nice false imprisonment paycheck too.
Is there a source with more information on what's going on and less about the emotions of the accused? There's barely any info on what they were really accused of, why they were convicted, and why they were released (just "recent scientific advances")
can i just say.... the justice system in the 80s and 90s seemed to be more fucked up than it is today, at least today they actually can do scientific testing, while in the 80s and 90s, circumstantial or testimonial evidence were often the determining factor in these cases. that and oh god the lawsuit that will follow if they are found innocent [editline]20th November 2013[/editline]
Is there a source with more information on what's going on and less about the emotions of the accused? ya the two that are out have served their sentences, the one thats not out is fighting the 37.4 year sentence
that and oh god the lawsuit that will follow if they are found innocent
The court's probably going to be "oh god it actually says we have to pay them that much oh fuck were gonna be poor". If the defendants were innocent all along, they're going to get such fat repayment for the injustice.

They were imprisoned at the height of the satanic day care scare where anyone who had anything to do with kids were suspected of this sort of shit, and many, many wrongfully jailed.
no amount of money can repay that much lost time of your life not saying I wouldn't take the money but it isn't going to make things better

The doctor recently recanted as well as the girl. EDIT: The prosecutor had a prejudice against the women, not the doctor, my mistake. The doctor testified against them because she noticed scarring and attributed it to the alleged crimes.
