When a game says "accounts" rather than "active players" I just laugh.
When a game says "accounts" rather than "active players" I just laugh.
Yeah, exactly. Doubly so with a game like WoT where 95% of the players who are active are usually too busy trying to put a nice spitshine on the viewports of their tank with their tongues...
Fun fact, Russian players outnumber North American players by a HILARIOUS amount, but the American server pays 8x the amount of money as the RU server.
I never could get into World of Tanks... I felt as though it was too clunky for a shooter, and too unrealistic for a sim. It felt like an FPS on treads. I'm hoping that War Thunder's ground combat will suit me better.

It's everything WoT did screw up, but WT didn't.
Everytime i play this, it feels like I'm rolling the dice everytime i shoot, and i really hate the "detection" system the game has. I started shouting out dice game names in result of this.
I played World of Tanks for years. Higher tier matches and especially clan wars with Facepunch were a blast but I just got bored of the match-to-match bullshit between aim RNG, artillery, invisible tanks, and the general slowness of the game. After putting up with all this for so long my very last match was one that I just quit from because I had been hiding behind a house for 10 minutes completely unable to move because I knew there were 5 invisible tanks looking at me over a ridge. I still get the urge to reinstall the game because it's wholly unique within the online video game world, for a little while yet anyway, and it's a shame because if they just fixed a few key issues I would definitely play it more.
Say WoT? I hated this game since I saw the prices on the tanks that can only be bought with money. Seriously what kind of mad idiot buys virtual tanks and then proceeds to get killed in half a second anyway because you didn't find a camp spot. Shit game.

WTGF and Obsidian's recently announced modern tank game have my attention, WoT to scratch the WW2-and-early-cold-war itch and Armored Warfare to let me derp about in an Abrams.
Indeed, that's why I'm going to be jumping ship once the CBT goes open.
CBT?
CBT?
Yeah, right now certain peeps can get into a closed beta test and play the ground forces right now.
I recently got into the CBT for ground forces, I can tell you that: it's tons better. It's everything WoT did screw up, but WT didn't.
It really isn't tons better, but it has potential. The simulation gamemode anyway, Arcade and Realistic gets ruined by the stupid tags as soon as you have line of sight with an enemy, even if hes behind foliage.

The simulation gamemode anyway, Arcade and Realistic gets ruined by the stupid tags as soon as you have line of sight with an enemy, even if hes behind foliage.
That's because of the stupid meta in WoT where everyone thinks that being behind bushes gives you stealth camo. The game is about superior positioning and using your tank's strong sides. The biggest screwup of WoT btw was upgunning your tanks with guns of a higher tier or even two tiers in case of TDs. It destroyed any kind of balancing between tanks.
biggest mistake of WoT is having the shittest spotting system known to man seriously, invisible tanks. great
Spotting System in my opinion with World of Tanks is just really shit because of the current maps, a lot of the newer revised maps fix the problems with invisaboo tanks. They are still there of course, but it they're much easier to avoid now along with a lot of the new maps being revamped from a campy style to a faster paced style of gameplay. Other than that I like the spotting system mainly because I just tend to play a ton of light tanks and have a ton of fun doing it. I still hate Wargaming for adding swamp back in, utter piece of garbage that map is.

ITT people who played wot 3 years ago in low tier tanks with untrained crews on the old spotting system without any map knowledge and likely little understanding of WoT's meta. It'd be like if I ran into the LoL thread as a level 1 and started bitching about some Carry champ, saying my support should be able to kill it solomid. It's a complex RTS spotting system. That's it. In the same way that Company of Heroes would not work without a fog of war, WoT would not work without spotting. (User was banned for this post ("ITT" - Orkel))
I actually have a reason to post a video of the hilarious ANSWER THE CALL OF ESPORTS pre-video ad they ran a few months back

Another endless beta game which is never quite fixed and neither really broken. I am not denying that spotting is neccessary but it's so horribly done. Meta is all over the place. And the community is god awful, it is almost impossible to find teams not riddled with idiots who will get themselves killed given every opportunity(I bet WT will end up like that too). And the goddamn dicerolls everywhere. The maps are bland, without any detail. While in WT the maps feel more natural, in WoT they are PAINFULLY man-made. You don't even feel like driving a tank, just a glorified racing car. Playing WarThunder opened my eyes and showed me how really mediocre WoT is. Now that I think of it, I can't really find a reason for myself to enjoy it anymore. [editline]7th April 2014[/editline] Also, on a side note: WoT is an purely an arcade game that claims to have realistic elements when it suits it.
Not to mention the pricing model used by WT is a fuck ton better than WoT's.
Don't forget that won't need to ever sell your hard earned tank because you ran out of place in your garage. And you don't pay nearly as much as in WoT for repairs. And no premium shells. And you don't have to grind the same tank over and over to advance down the research tree.
you're scrambling for reasons to lift up WT as your own lord and savior
It was an on the side comment to chunkymoney's reply. I made my reasons for regarding WT as a better game pretty clear in the previous post. How about replying to that one. And
in playing WT I found I wanted to be able to sell things so that I could properly ditch the craft for what I just researched.
That what YOU wanted, some people enjoy being able to jump back to their lower tier planes which they enjoy more than the higher ones. And why would you want to ditch them anyways? To get more credits? You gain them in such a rate you don't even need to sell those.
World of Tanks was shit until I played under the guidance of someone who was playing for over a year. Even playing with that guy telling me what to do, there were serious imbalance issues of being a lower level tank and getting pit against tanks one to two tiers higher than you. This made the grind long and very hard to bear. The spotting system felt silly and I hated how, for each new tank, I basically needed to retrain a new crew and lose any benefit the old one had like longer spotting distance. War Thunder was fun right out of the box and their matchmaking was fairly balanced. The grind from lower into mid tiers wasn't nearly as long as World of Tanks.
