Police find Sidewinder Missile in a guys house, among other things
A 3M-LONG air-to-air missile has been found in a house in Adelaide's northeastern suburbs.
Police say the heat-seeking Sidewinder missile - the type used by RAAF F/A-18 Hornet jet fighters - was disarmed and safe when they found it among a cache of weapons last week.
Sidewinder missiles are supersonic, heat-seeking missiles fired from fighter jets. They are equipped with an explosive warhead and infrared guidance system which locks onto heat signals from enemy aircraft.
They are 3.2m long and weigh around 85kg.
A man, 51, was charged with a range of offences, including possessing dangerous articles, unlawful possession and unregistered and insecure firearms.
Police have launched an investigation into how the missile came to be in Modbury North but would not provide any further details.
The question is how.... Scary though, this is less than 40kms from me
Wonder what he was going to use it for.
I wonder how he could have gotten one. Also, it is F/A-18 Super Hornet.
Sounds like he had it as a trophy.

A quick Wikipedia leads me to believe they used both still.
(EDIT:somewhat ninja'd)
Also, it is F/A-18 Super Hornet.
Considering that the RAAF operates both Hornets and Super Hornets (and many more of the former), there's nothing wrong with what's said the article.
(and considering they're turning half their Super Hornets into Growlers, only 12 aircraft will have sidewinder capability, vs the 71 regular, sidewinder-equipped Hornets)
The latest model.

I'm pretty sure that my friend's dad has a demilitarized one converted into lamp in their living room, definitely looks like a sidewinder.

I would totally mount it on a wall or have it made into a statue in my front yard.
