Might be a stupid question but: Can I move an hard drive with an OS to another pc, with the OS still working correctly?
If not how can I move my OS + license to another pc?
Thanks.
It should work correctly.
Doesn't Windows freak out with major hardware changes?

It asked me to re-register Windows when I did it. Worked fine afterwards.
So I can use the same license key?
The drivers might prove problematic. Take note of this.
Remove all your drivers first then reinstall the correct ones when you switch the HDD over.
Ok thanks everyone.

Use the same hard drive on a different motherboard, it won't work.
Comes from vast experience.
hint: won't boot into windows

It should just ask for the registration key again?

It should do if you delete your drivers

Video of somebody showing it?

It's not very consistent whether it works or not
The best thing to do is just back up all the stuff you want to keep onto an external, format the internal drive, then transfer it onto the new motherboard, and re load it with W7 and all your backed up files.

This is the final solution, which will definitely work. I'd try just swapping it over first though
I think Windows sets its territory with the motherboard it is installed on. Maybe something with the registry and some sort of code(s) that relays between the main board and the hard drive.
Then when that code cannot be present, windows fails to boot.
My theory though.
(And, when you switch the hard drive to a different computer (my experience) windows 7 freezes at the "starting windows" screen)
Yeah, try swapping first, if it doesn't work, back up what you want, and format.
Well the last idea would be kinda long process, my Windows 7 is an upgrade one so I would need to install XP on it first with SP packs and then over to windows 7.
Most of the time Windows fucks up when being transferred to another mobo due to the chipset drivers, there is a possibility that Windows continues to to work fine but I suggest a reinstall.
Okay thanks, I will do a clean install then.
