• Russia's 'gay propaganda' law causes outrage abroad but finds support at home
The Russian legislation passed on June 30 was met with cries of outrage and calls by gay activists for a determined response. Demonstrators around the US have joined the LGBT community on the weekend by dumping vodka into the street calling for a ban of all Russian food and drink in protest to what they call ‘Russia's anti-gay laws.’
http://rt.com/news/russia-gay-propaganda-law-069/
-snip-
Of course it would find support in the western world's Middle East.

ban of all Russian food and drink
why
why
it's probably more meaning banning stuff imported from russia rather than just all russian food and drink
why
They mean ban on imports, not a total ban on the stuff itself. [editline]5th August 2013[/editline] Ninja'd
calling for a ban of all Russian food and drink in protest
Seems like a stupid way to protest. Ultimately, that just hurts American vendors and has absolutely no effect on the Russian government itself.

Ultimately, that just hurts American vendors and has absolutely no effect on the Russian government itself.
yeah i'm gonna agree. i think solidarity protests and demonstrations will be alot better, maybe protests against russian diplomats whenever they're in the US or protests outside russian embassies. banning food and drink won't do shit i don't think, like, how much food and drink is even imported from russia?
Its an RT story. Of course they're going to focus on the ~food ban kneejerk~ even if its completely blown out of proportion.
Seems like a stupid way to protest. Ultimately, that just hurts American vendors and has absolutely no effect on the Russian government itself.
and i can't survive without my vodka...
The comments section in that article makes me cringe.
Seems like a stupid way to protest. Ultimately, that just hurts American vendors and has absolutely no effect on the Russian government itself.
Well... by buying the vodka and dumping it in the street, they are stimulating the economy. So as long as they keep buying vodka to pour out, I don't see anything wrong with it.
Well... by buying the vodka and dumping it in the street, they are stimulating the economy. So as long as they keep buying vodka to pour out, I don't see anything wrong with it.
except he's talking about them calling for a BAN of all russian food and drink
it's probably more meaning banning stuff imported from russia rather than just all russian food and drink
i can't wait to order a "white freedom" at the bar
i can't wait to order a "white freedom" at the bar
i get what you're referencing but that probably wouldn't sound too good haha
Meanwhile a gay kid tortured by a Russian neo-nazi group recently died, and local authorities support it.
In the official correspondence from the local District Attorney office and Governor's office it was explained that Russian authorities do not see any wrongdoings in the video clips or photographs posted by Neo Nazi group "Occupy Pedofilyaj." Actually, the authorities referred to this group as one of the "civil movements fighting the sins of the society."
"Gay propaganda law" is the understatement of the century, this is basically swinging into a fully-fledged genocide. If the law that removes children of gay couples is introduced and passes, as is rumoured, it actually will fit the UN's definition of genocide
Its an RT story. Of course they're going to focus on the ~food ban kneejerk~ even if its completely blown out of proportion.
They also defended the law itself, RT is such blatant propaganda.
They also defended the law itself, RT is such blatant propaganda.
They did?
-snip- how the fuck did that happen.
They did?
no
Meanwhile a gay kid tortured by a Russian neo-nazi group recently died, and local authorities support it.
How does taking away children of parents constitute genocide, I'm not saying its not wrong but how?
because it counts as trying to destroy a race/culture/whatever by removing the children to reeducate them or whatever, like what happened to the Aborigines in australia, children of mixed ethnicity would be taken from aborigine parents and raised as whites
Meanwhile a gay kid tortured by a Russian neo-nazi group recently died, and local authorities support it. If the law that removes children of gay couples is introduced and passes, as is rumoured, it actually will fit the UN's definition of genocide

"Article II: In the present Convention, genocide means any of the following acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such: (a) Killing members of the group; (b) Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group; (c) Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part; (d) Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group; (e) Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group.
Fits E, but not article II. It's horrible, but not genocide, so we can't actually do anything about it in the international court of law.
Fits E, but not article II. It's horrible, but not genocide, so we can't actually do anything about it in the international court of law.
Why does it have to fit in that narrow definition before we can do something? This is already clearly evil, why can't we stop them now?
Why does it have to fit in that narrow definition before we can do something? This is already clearly evil, why can't we stop them now?
Because that's international law, and that's what we have to follow to keep the diplomats happy. If we let places like NK do their evil shit then what makes you think we'll stop Russia.
Fits E, but not article II. It's horrible, but not genocide, so we can't actually do anything about it in the international court of law.
erm, it says in whole or in part, meaning it could be any one of those things which it is
erm, it says in whole or in part, meaning it could be any one of those things which it is
No.... It really doesn't. In whole or in part means destroying the groups defined as such; Homosexuals are neither a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, so the article does not affect them in any way.
Fits E, but not article II. It's horrible, but not genocide, so we can't actually do anything about it in the international court of law.
But if we made a gay country...
I really hope the 2014 Winter Olympics will be widely boycotted because of this. You can't expect to be a treated as a modern society with these kind of laws.
