So, I got a new laptop charger today due to my past one not working. I plugged everything in and what not. My laptop screen then got really bright and then dim. I looked on the charger and it was set to 24 volts (the amount of output is adjustable). My laptop normally charges with 15 volts. I'm thinking that it may have overloaded some hardware inside the laptop. The screen is really dim, you need a light in the background to see what's on the screen and even then I can barely make out whats on the screen. Should I take it in to get it looked at or something else? The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L655.
Go to your power settings and you can use the basic settings to configure that the screen wouldn't even get darker when you're not plugged-in. You might wanna add another power option such as max performance while you're at it. I think the problem is with your charger or battery. Is it attached completely? Is the cord lose? Some computers and televisions don't got good protection against high-voltage from an instant voltage recieve from an eletricity outlet, and can cause damage on hardware, but this is very rare so I'm pretty sure that's not the reason. Somehow I think the screen broke, since it went really bright at first. might have broken the back light of the screen.
The inverter got burned out due to the extra 9 volts. Yes, get it checked out. Call their help desk or something.
Broken backlight. Like the above person said, probably the inverter.
