Calling him an idiot really seems rash. He didn't hit the nail on the head with his sentiment, but it's not like he's speaking like a blathering idiot here. The point he was trying to make (I'm assuming) is that lyrical content in modern mainstream music is almost non-existent at this point. Which I would whole-heartedly agree with, it's not like the music is shit compared to a decade or two ago, there's just much less focus on lyrical content, just catchy beats and high production value for the most part.
Michael Jackson's music was pretty good in my opinion. I don't listen to pop but his more popular songs are enjoyable.

Can Spears sing either? I remember seeing a concert recording of her without a backtrack and the singing was just plain terrible.
