The justice department had given the state a Monday deadline to respond to a letter demanding it abandon the controversial law. The law violates federal civil rights protections, the department has said. What a bunch of fucking retards. Federal government > State government. Shouldn't be this hard to grasp.
Supporters of the law say policies that allow transgender people to use toilets according to their gender identity increases the threat of sexual assault.
And how about same-sex sexual assaults? Do they propose to make a separate bathroom strictly for sex-offenders-to-be and funnel them all into there? This lawsuit is a farce and going against the federal ruling just makes it even more absurd. Hell, if anything, it'd make more people uncomfortable/panicked to have a woman going into the men's restroom because she has a penis and vice versa in the women's room.
North Carolina is a great place, but boy, it's government has so many right-wing nutjobs.
Fiscal federalism at work :science101:
Guys, leave North Carolina alone, it's not like there hasn't been any civil rights struggles since the end of slavery that they could look at for examples. It's not like they've had segregated bathrooms before, so it's not like we can expect them to know any bette...oh. It's a bit sad to watch some states pushing forward into the 21st century while others make proud strides backwards into the 19th.
Supremacy clause wins again
Well this is fucking great. My tuition is going to increase because the state government is retarded.
I didn't really think this was a really important issue when I read the thread, but reading this kinda changed my mind (the tone was annoying though). http://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-36000356 Just for those of you who are in the apathetic camp like I was.
If the land really belonged to the people would you not think to fix the problems yourselves?
Please tell me what stops someone determined to rape a woman from not simply entering any bathroom and raping a woman?
Laws, obviously...
