Saudi Arabian billionaire Prince AlWaleed bin Talal, a nephew of King Abdullah, has thrown his support behind allowing Saudi women to drive, saying it makes economic sense.
Women are barred from driving in the Arab kingdom - leaving them reliant on mostly foreign drivers.
"(The question of) women driving will result in dispensing with at least 500,000 foreign drivers, and that has an economic and social impact for the country," the prince said on his Twitter account on Sunday.
He did not spell out the economic benefits, but Saudi officials have said they are worried about the amount of money being sent out of the country by foreign workers.
The basis for his decision is the wrong one, but it's definitely a step forward.
Also please remove Islam from your constitution.
Woman's rights are only valid if they make money
Yet they'll still decapitate you for kissing your partner in public.

Uh no it's called knowing your audience; slavery was outlawed in the United States under the basis that it makes "economic sense" The Saudi prince knows that the only way to get his suggestion through the religious radicals in power is to try to justify it not from a human rights perspective but from an economic one.
So no, this guy is doing the good thing regardless of his publicly professed justification for it.
Will there be mandatory window tint... or do they still have to wear burkas behind the wheel?

I totally said they shouldn't do this because it's all for the wrong reasons.
There is also the issue that driving in Saudi is suicide, they drive like they don't want to live.

That's because the rich people there don't get in trouble if they kill someone who isn't as important.
Also please remove Islam from your constitution.
The country that contains the single most holy location in all of Islam? A wee bit early for them to secularise, considering the volatile nature of the region. Would be great if they did, though.

Ought to take bets on who will secularize first, Arabia or Iran

My money's on Iran. Even they are more progressive than Saudi Arabia.
[editline]heh[/editline]

[sp]not by much, though[/sp]
Jokes on anybody who bets on USA.

To me it sounded like he was in support and just mentioned another reason not based on opinion.

If he said something along the lines of woman's rights it wouldn't be as well received I think, wording it this way, making it a monetary and economics issue instead of equality issue could bring in more support
The middle east just needs time to modernize itself instead of getting bombed by western countries. Making the west look evil.
normally those hats look alright, but what happened in this photo?
It looks like he's wearing the lining from one of those KFC baskets on his head...
