• Best video editing software for Mac Book Pro?

So I recently bought a new Mac Book Pro. I've got a movie to make this year for my media class for highschool and I intend to get into some sort of film school for university. So anyway, I want to start learning with a proper video editing program. I've had enough with iMovie, it's not going to get me anywhere. So I came on to get your opinions on which is the best video editing software for me to buy. I've been told 'Premiere Pro' is better than 'Final Cut Pro'. Looking them up, I found PP is $21 while FCP is $320. Am I missing something here? It doesn't really make sense that a program that is apparently better is almost $300 cheaper. But ah well that's why i'm asking this. If there are are other programs that you think would be best for me please feel free to list them.
There's no way Premiere Pro is $21. Where did you find that?
Derp me. That's why I came on to ask for some better opinions. Apparently what i've been looking at is some kind of tutorial bullshit thingo, literally called "Adobe® Premiere® Pro CS5.5" Probably should have looked at more of a the description. But that clears a few things up now. Also all the Mac Book laptops at my school (They're all in the Media room) have Final Cut Pro on them, if that makes any sort of difference. So yeah on the basis that they will be the same, or similar, prices, what should I be looking at here?
Premiere Pro is easier to use if you don't know what you're doing. FCP is more technical. With what you're doing it can be done in either but I would learn FCP if you are wanting to go to school for this as it will probably be the software you will be using there.
