Domain names and trademark filing often stir-up media speculation but the prospect of a film for one of the best games of last year is still reason for cautious excitment. Sony has filled domains for last year's critical success The Last of Us.
While this doesn’t mean a movie is in the works in itself, at least someone at Sony thinks it’s a possibility. The domains TheLastOfUs-Movie.com and TheLastOfUsMovie.net were both registered on November 25 by Sony’s online brand protection agency MarkMonitor while the register’s email has a Sony Pictures address according to Domain Tools.
The Last of Us follows the story of a post-apocalyptic struggle against a pandemic and the nature of humanity where the one hope for a cure may not be enough.
While Sony might just be protecting its brand the prospect of Joel and Ellie making it to the big screen is exciting.
I'd like to see one made, but not with Joel and Ellie.
I just bought this game today, actually. I still don't know any spoilers.
Try your best to keep it that way. It doesn't really have any HUGE MIND-BLOWING PLOT TWIST like Bioshock Infinite, but the storytelling is amazing and it has one of the best endings to a video game I've ever seen.
this is neat, but i almost feel like the story wouldn't have the same level as emotional connection as the game had with all the characters if it were a movie
i think a movie about the time between the death of joel's daughter and meeting ellie would be really cool
i guess it would be ironic if ellen page was in it
can't be worse than beyond two souls!

i could see that working really quite well

Let me put it this way.
The game didn't get it's reputation from its gameplay, and while it's graphics are beautiful, they are not the real work of art.
Prepare to experience one of the best stories, if not the best story, you have ever played in a game.

the story itself is pretty base and uninteresting. it's the storytelling and character development that make it worthwhile
One of the best game stories I have ever seen. Nontraditional ending blindsides players wondering what is good and what is bad, and then who benefits from what. Almost similar to Dark Souls' ending.
assuming it was live-action, i'd be pretty stoked if they dirtied up troy baker and cast him as joel
Imo, the story was a generic zombie mishmash and the gameplay was horrible.
But i seem to be the only person to feel this way about the game.

the story itself was admittedly really generic, but it was pulled off so damn well that it has ascended to being really great, at least in my opinion
A movie about a game that is partially a movie. I'm not going to argue because it could be really good, but it doesn't seem necessary.

I'd argue that is what makes any good story however, because without them any plot will be terrible.
I thought it already was a film
I wanna see their lives after the game, like how they [sp]lived with his brother and the town, and I want ellie to figure out joel lied about what happened at the lab[/sp]
A movie set in the same universe, assuming they can match the writing of the game, would be cool, but if I wanted to watch The Last of Us, I'd just play The Last of Us.

There are quite a lot of differences between the two.
i thought the last of us was a movie
Am I the only one who thinks The Last of Us wasn't that great a game?
It felt very limited and restricted, especially compared to the Uncharted games. And while the story telling was good, the story itself wasn't anything too spectacular.

Probably one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen.
hugh jackman and ellen page
hugh jackman and ellen page
Ellen Page doesn't look 14.

that movie was pretty terrible though (just like the book)
Ellen Page doesn't look 14.
She always looks 14
Pairing an grown man and a young girl in an apocalypse seems pretty popular these days.
Wait, you mean a second movie right? Because Last Of Us played more like a movie than a game.
For fucks sake. Uncharted was just as linear as Last of Us. Linear isn't bad.
