As threats of a "Louisville Purge" — and promises of people arming themselves — spread on social media, police are urging residents to call 911 if they see anything suspicious Friday night.
People should "let police handle it as quickly as they can," said Dwight Mitchell, a spokesman for Louisville Metro Police.
The "Louisville Purge" rumors are based on the 2013 film "The Purge" in which mobs hunt and kill people during a fictitious 12-hour period where crime is legal. A sequel, "The Purge: Anarchy," was released July 18 and is still showing.
The "Louisville Purge" is supposedly set for 8 p.m. Friday through 6:30 a.m. Saturday, and some Louisville residents have posted on social media that they will be armed.
Mitchell said that if citizens have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, they have a right to do it.
But "if people are doing law-abiding things, they will be able to go about their activities" as normal, he said.
On Thursday, police in both Louisville and Jeffersonville, Ind., said they were aware of the threats and would have officers ready to respond.
Louisville police spokesman Sgt. Phil Russell said the police "take any threat that would incite violence on our community seriously."
Even with the added social media buzz, ticket sales don't appear to have picked up for "The Purge: Anarchy."
A manager for the Rave Preston Crossing 16 theater, who declined to give her name, said that sales had been normal for a movie that's been out for so long.
Louisville isn't the only city that has had threats like this. The Sheriff's Office in Jacksonville, Fla., sent out a news release Wednesday that it is looking into similar threats.
And Rumors of a purge in Detroit are spreading on social media. Fans of the boy band One Direction, which is scheduled to play there Saturday, are tweeting worries about the band getting injured.

It says in the article.

Shit film about killing gets a sequel about anarchy.
"We have the right to carry weapons so we're gonna walk around like twats together and pretend we're in a film to scare people and make us feel powerful."
Oh yeah, there's absolutely no way this could end badly.
such a dumb movie concept
yeah no laws instead of stealing shit im just gonna mow bitches down lol!
I have no idea how this film managed to attract this kind of pointlessly stupid cult following.
Am I the only one who, until now, had no idea they made a sequel to that movie?
I honestly find that more bizarre than the news story...
hopefully one direction and these "louisville" denizens cancel eachother out and kill eachother
I had a friend who called me up last night saying she'd heard about this happening in Detroit yesterday. Hadn't actually heard anything else about it until now.
And those movies really sucked, but I guess a lot of people were dumb enough to take it seriously, heard a ton of talk about them when the first one came out.

A really funny review that describes in detail how much the film is stupid.
You know, I hate it when a black guy get's killed.
Because then everyone, instead of just using his death to rally against violence in general, they just go "FUCK WHITES, FUCK COPS, DIE PIGS DIE!" and we gotta dig up crap from the pre 1960s.
The Purge look's like a meh Dystopian movie
Viral marketing has gone too far this time
I swear this shit is stupid. The only people who are taking this purge stuff seriously here in Louisville is a bunch of 14 year olds who think this was sanctioned by the government or something. I doubt more than a few people will go out and do it though, they might go as far as break some shit and get arrested. The Louisville Metro is on high alert tonight and the Kentucky state fair is tonight so I really don't think anything is gonna happen.

How is that related? I think you're confusing St. Louis with Louisville.
-eh nvm-
This is pretty much it in a nutshell:

What in the actual fuck?
the fuck you talking about?
Some kid got shot, people are rioting in St. Louis, he probably thought this was related etc.

Sounds like a normal friday night in downtown Louisville.
Am I the only one who, until now, had no idea they made a sequel to that movie?
I honestly find that more bizarre than the news story...
I saw an ad for the movie, ONCE. I'm not shitting you, I saw that ad once and it never appeared on TV again.

I think the point those individuals are trying to make in that case is that there's still a systematic discrimination against blacks from the police force, which is analogous to the struggles in the 1960s.
Watch it all turn out to be a dumb guerrilla marketing stunt for that stupid movie franchise.
Maybe if it all goes awry, they won't make any more? Just kill the franchise in its tracks?
I live in Louisville... and there is nothing going down and I decided to call this a prank call.

I don't know about you but I wouldn't want a bunch of hoodlums to break windows and shit to promote my movie. If anything this is gonna make the sales worse.
