The New York Times Company's Research and Development Lab studies novel ways to deliver news to people. Their latest creation is a bathroom mirror that uses Microsoft Kinect to detect motion and deliver a stream of news while you comb your hair or put on your makeup.
Besides news, the technology will let you send emails, shop online or add calendar entries via your mirror. And it uses the Kinect to interact with the user via motion and voice commands. It's an interesting concept, but, really, is the bathroom the best place to use this technology?
The average person spends a total of one hour per day in the bathroom and most of that time is spent on the commode or in the shower, not in front of the mirror. The amount of time you spend brushing your teeth is just a tiny part of your day.
The bathroom is also a huge breeding ground for microorganisms, especially if you flush with the seat up. Every flush release a plume of virus and bacteria into the air that disperse and land on your sink, walls and your newly installed interactive mirror. Kinda gross, no?

Video in source. Seems like the technologies in Ironman is becoming a reality.
It doesn't have to just be in the bathroom. This could be implemented into a sort portable display (ie. a tablet or holograph projector) or multiple displays around your household. On the matter of cleanliness, you can always install filters into your ventilation and clean your floors/walls/mirror.

But really, that mirror is very cool.
inb4 Adam's broken mirror.
Although it looks awesome, to be honest it looks one of those completely unnecessary technologies that was made just for the sake of it.
I'd like it to show Facepunch's news. I find more stuff on here worth reading rather than one news company who has all of the same opinion and views
I'd rather have this on a table.

Sounds awesome but impractical.
I can imagine cutting myself shaving or doing a terrible job of brushing my teeth because some news article is really distracting.

By the time these become mainstream, razors will have been replaced by laser-based shaving devices that eliminate the possibility of cutting yourself:
This will allow me to buy toilet paper online while I crap and have it delivered to my toilet just in time!!
Oh god I'm so happy

Shaving close and smooth as I reuse my razors with a laser raser, laser raser.
Hack someone's mirror
Add a program that will render you standing behind him with devious grin when he comes to the mirror once, and once he turns around in terror, your picture vanishes
Collect the shat bricks
The future is here, and I want one of these bad boys.

horrible idea to put it in a bathroom, nobody wants to get distracted while brushing their teeth.

What incase they pop their eye out with their tooth brush accidently?
That'd be cool

There's your problem.
I'm an American living in China that reads American news. How about asking before looking like an idiot, assuming you know everything about me?
I want something like this on a pair of glasses. Having a HUD on my glasses would be so cool :v:
Although it looks awesome, to be honest it looks one of those completely unnecessary technologies that was made just for the sake of it.
Alot of things were made for the sake of it but then were used for something much much bigger.
Its called progression
Hud on your glasses or car window.
Undercover porn on your glasses in the train.

Too bad it's no good for games.
I never asked for this.

What happens when you slip with that? That's not a cut, that's half your face gone.
