A federal judge let the air out of "Deflategate" Thursday, erasing New England quarterback Tom Brady's four-game suspension for a controversy the NFL claimed threatened football's integrity.
U.S. District Judge Richard M. Berman criticized NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell for dispensing "his own brand of industrial justice."
Berman said Goodell went too far in affirming punishment of the Super Bowl winning quarterback. Brady has insisted he played no role in a conspiracy to deflate footballs below the allowable limit at last season's AFC championship game.
This is so fucking childish at this point.
Someone must of received one hell of a bribe.
Seattle is just salty that we won.
GO PATS
Bullshit overturning the suspension, Brady covered up knowing about deflating the footballs
Oh come the fuck on everyone and their mothers knows the Pats are a bunch of cheaters why are they still getting away with it.
Looking at the case the NFL put together it would have been shocking if the Judge HAD upheld the suspension. They had virtually no evidence, their own investigation was rife with problems, the Wells report was mostly assumptions and they couldn't provide any kind of reasoning for the severity of the suspension.
Fuck the NFL, they desperately need to be knocked down quite a few pegs.
While it is true that not saying anything about it is more or less contributing to doing it. But his case stands firm he didnt approve of it and he didnt ask for it to happen. He just let things play out. NFL's case was garbage and he won based on that. Stop being salty because they beat your team without the ball being deflated. I dont even root for either of those teams i just want my dolphins to do anything.
Can someone tell me why a federal court even wasted the resources to hear a trial about whether or not someone cheated in a game?

Yeah I'm a little confused about why this is a federal court thing to decide?
Because we're Americans and are fucking retarded
Ahahaha, the amount of salt coming from people freaking out about the ~scary deflated ball conspiracy~.
At least Brady isn't punching out his girlfriend or something like that, but deflate a football? Ye be sent to the gods below!

But you don't understand! Deflating a football is equitable to a human rights offense!

I saw about as much controversy when guys were caught cheating in a pro-level CSGO match. It's the same thing, really, just on a larger sport.
The NFL is a fun-killing group that makes all football players soulless husks that can't say anything without risking fines. It's why I enjoy the NBA a lot more.

All this means is they cant prove tom brady knew. Regardless the patriots still cheated. The Hawks are still the best football team in the NFL.
I'm sure it's bigger a deal than what I think, but how exactly does deflating the ball give anybody an advantage?

How does it feel to be objectively wrong?
These fucking puns

Less to do with him actually deflating it and more about the punishment he received. Remember that the NFL's huge, and 4 game suspension = lost $$ among other things. Just like you can take disciplinary actions to court in other industries, it would make sense that you can do it here, especially considering how high profile and wealthy Tom Brady and the Pats are.
someone broke the nfl rules? must because the opposing team is mad that's why he did it
flawless logic

I think because it's a labor/management thing. Forget for a second the 'labor' is playing a sport, there are still important issues.
In this case it seems the management(the league) got dinged for denying labor(player) due process. He's not in violation of any rule, and since there's no rule against what he did then there's no set punishment. Management can't just make up a rule AFTER you've done something they don't like and make up a punishment for it as well, not when you are part of collective bargaining agreement.
That's how I read the decision anyways. Not speaking out about the equipment being altered is not against the rules.

Him and Manning were in on it together. It was them who persuaded the NFL to make a rule change that let offense use their own balls to begin with
Strangely enough, I'm absolutely not surprised.

Deflated balls are harder to handle, or kick. And in the case of the NFL, you'd need a properly inflated ball so it won't be harder to kick or handle. That way both sides have a fair advantage in terms of the ball, rather than one team having an advantage because they had the ball when it was at a normal state rather than deflated.
Either way, I honestly am indifferent with him getting off. As people have stated, not a lot of evidence to determine a verdict. But I'm not surprised he got off either, didn't think he'd get suspended.

It's easier to hold and catch a deflated ball. Manning and Brady pushed for the NFL to make a rule change that let the offense use their own footballs about 8 years ago. If they need to kick then they'll use a properly inflated one, if they need to make offensive run and pass plays, they'd use the deflated ones. You can go back and look at the statistics for the Patriots over the last 7 years and you can tell when that rule change came into effect, since no one else was cheating, everyone else's fumble ratings pretty much remained the same and on par with every other team, but the Patriots fumble rating miraculously dropped by many times the average. You'd think it wouldn't have such a big impact but the numbers say it was huge
I don't care at all about football but I'm confused as to why fans of the sport defend this. If it's because "everyone cheats" then why not curtail that culture with setting a precedent? If it's because the Patriots "would have won anyways" then why did they cheat? Seems pretty obvious that if this stuff is casually acceptable then football is more like pro wrestling than a sport.
Brady was punished for something they cant prove he did. There is no proof that he knew about "deflated" balls.
As for the "deflated" balls, go and read any number of blogs criticizing the science behind the "independent investigation" and youll find its a massive mess. There is no proof they cheated.

Not to mention that Brady performed significantly better with the replacement balls in the second half.

NFL have succeeded in making this a media circus. Football finally starts tonight, lets fucking enjoy it.
