Time Warner Limiting/Cutting internet at late hours?
9 replies, posted
I googled, and googled. Found nothing else. Figured Facepunch might know something! So Facepunch, here's the whole question.
Time Warner.
Are they cutting internet, limiting, or anything that would cause problems in the connection at late hours?
I've had my internet messed with at the same times every day for the past couple of days. 10-12am to 6am or so. Directly connected computers get the same problem. Other households in the area with Time Warner are experiencing the same problem.
The "Area" is Dayton, Ohio.
Even while trying to post this it cut out on me.
Edit1: Let me know if this is the wrong place.
Edit2: Seems to cut out every three to five minutes.
Edit3: Read some old bloggers post about their internet cutting out the same way in LA. ... Back in 2008.
Call up TW customer no-support and stay on the horn for 3-4 hours and they might give you a definitive answer to your problem.
I think you may have a shoddy modem. None of the cable modems that they install at customer locations are new, they're all refurbs. Very few new modems enter the pool, unless it's a rare occasion where they upgrade their services.
I've had to deal with shit cable modems from TW for years, and over that time talking to techs and even sysadmins, they admit that the refurb process is laughably terrible. Most of the time the transceivers will blow out and they'll replace them. They'll then put the modem on a bench for all but 5 minutes and give it a yay or nay based on a very few brief tests. Refurbed cable modems are known to instantly fail, have connection issues or fail within a few weeks after installation.

We had the modem replaced and insisted on a brand new one even if we had to pay. They came with it still wrapped in the box. Cabled tied and everything. The modem across the street, yeah. That one's refurb.

Hi, I live in the same house/across the street from OP
I fail to see how it's a modem problem if every house on our street with time warner seemingly has the same issue at the exact same failure times with all different kinds of modems
All modems failing in the same way at the exact same time doesn't sound very likely
Time warner has a inherent problem of giving us bad/broken/defective cable boxes but we've only had one modem fail, and that thing was about 6-7 years old when it started to croak
p.s.
The first time this happened I went to go reset the modem, and when I saw it, the incoming data light was blinking every second, a signal that the manual said means it wasn't even receiving any incoming data from the provider whatsoever
There's my tidbit of info
Sounds like a problem at their end, either Time Warner's servers or the exchange station.
I'm getting no problems in the late hours though I'm in SoCal. So yeah.
If other people in your area are having the same problem be sure to tell them that.
Also threaten to terminate your service that'll usually make them send someone out.
Where at in Dayton?
I live in south dayton not far from the Dayton mall and I get no issues. Granted we pay the $50 interenet for the fastest speeds.
I'm wondering if the area you are in just has spotty cable coverage? I've never had issues with them throttling me. Only thing I can say is to never use their autopay system, because it'll auto-refund it back into your account, creating a missing payment, then suddenly 3 months later when they don't see a payment they'll shut you down and ask for $200 to recconect, and even then you'll have to wait for a tech to come out within a couple of days [/rant]
Do you guys have Motorola modems?
About this, now it's not happening anymore.
Well, not as frequently anyways, small hiccups but that's about it.
I think this thread can be closed now, pretty much confirmed it was Time Warner shitting itself.

Even though it's not happening anymore I feel obligated to answer, just because you live rather close lol
I live in the New Carlisle/Park Layne area.
Probably just spotty coverage since this likes to happen from time to time, either the TV cable fucking up, the internet, or both at the same time.
