Just wanted to see what you guys think of it, as well as any changes you guys can think of that might save me money (I am only buying from memoryexpress.com).
Also hoping if you guys could estimate a benchmark of how well I could run games such as Metro 2033, Shogun 2, and Civilization V. (I would be playing at a 2048x1152 resolution)
Solid build, but you can get some parts (i.e. the HDD and Optical drive) for cheaper on Newegg.com.
Why are you only willing to use memoryexpress if you don't mind me asking? Most of this could be found far cheaper in other places.
change case to HAF 912
change HDD to spinpoint F3
if possible use newegg, you should be getting more for this amount and even basic stuff like the OS is overpriced and the product selection isn't great
Yeah really the only good place to get cheap parts is Newegg.
But Micro Center has some great deals on CPUs and motherboards right now:

Memory Express isn't honestly that bad, and I would prefer going to the store to pick everything up.
They are actually pretty well priced and they offer great service IMO.
What I am more interested in is the benchmarks.

Please stop suggesting the HAF 912 to eveerryybody. Sure, it's a very good case, but a case should be up to what the person ordering likes.
that RAM - it's not dual-channel, is it?
go for dual channel over single channel

I believe it is dual channel, unless they are trying to misinform me.
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
by the way, what is the difference between single and dual channel?
I know it reduces bottlenecks or something like that.
[editline]28th July 2011[/editline]
wait i think I am an idiot.
Okay no its just one stick of RAM. derp.

yeah sorry I should've clarified in my post
and yes, dual-channel basically doubles the bandwidth between the CPU and the RAM

I may upgrade in the future if I feel that one stick isn't going to suffice, but I think having a 4 gig stick is great for saving space.
the hell space do you need to save if it's plugged in directly to the motherboard
dual channel is a pretty noticeable improvement over single, it'd be worth going for(was for me, at least)
HAF series are pretty much the best cases around at the moment, certainly in the £60-150 budget. After that you're into watercooling cases.

Fractal Design Define XL is where it is; I mean its a big black bland box with Pre-fitted noise absorbing material Configurable thermal chamber design Great cooling possibilities, 3x fans included (2x 140mm, 1x 180mm) 10x HDD slots
Sure beats the BEASTLY SO MANY LEDS MY PC IS SO POWERFUL- HAF cases. But that's just me.

1. Press LED toggle button on top of Haf 922 case
2. ???
3. Profit and no more ricer!
I'm thinking about doing a similar build. Although it'll be the first time I build a computer from scratch. The budget is really floating around 850-950, can somebody tell me what to look for in the RAM and HDD
department?

Go with 4-8gb ram (8gb if it isn't much more expensive) from brands like Corsair, DDR3-1333 or DDR3-1600.
For the HDD you would want to go with a Spinpoint F3. These come in 500gb and 1tb variants.
Wait a second that's my case!

I'm looking over the Memory express store and I've found some items that I'd like to switch for.

[url]http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX33248%28ME%29.aspx[/url]
Their both 8gb that go for 50 sum dollars. I'm wondering if it's worth switching out the corsair for one of these. Also, the HDD Mister Cool picked out isn't in stock were I am will this one be a decent replacement?

Deskstars are known as Deathstars.. (So no, not a good idea to go with those)
Woops

How's this? Also what about the two ram sticks I posted ?
Can't you order f3 from newegg? Caviar Black is much mroe expensive but if you really want it get it. Also for the ram go for 1333 IMO
I'd like to, but Canadian shipping costs outweigh the benefit. There are two memX's here with all the parts I need, so it's quicker and potentially cheaper.

I've basically abandoned my build for a cheaper one from Tigerdirect.
I would suggest checking out some other online sources as well as Memory Express to see what fits your price range best.
Welp I built it, it runs pretty well. Had some troubles since it was my first time. PSU is making some type of high pitched whine, going to the shop and gettting to to change it next day.
congrats and have fun with your new rig
Going out for a replacement PSU, when you attach the 24 pin should there be an click? The slot for the 24 pin is on the edge of the board I'm afraid to put pressure on it.

yes, that's most likely just the plastic clip catching in place
Had this rig since the third of august or so, it locked up twice in 3 months, once I think was a problem with windows trying to force an installation of internet browser 9, the other time happened a few days ago. I go on early in the morning started it up for about 20-30 minutes and it locked up while a youtube video was trying to load. Should I be worried?
EDIT: I don't really have any more info, the temps I'd assume are good since even under load it's at 55 for the GPU and around 40 for the CPU. It locked up on one of those youtube loading screen, you know black video background with the white little loop thing. In all honesty my memory is a bit off, on the whole subject. I know that I couldn't alt tab and couldn't move the mouse. The screen just frooze at that frame, the HDD light on my case kept blinking for a bit and then it went dead. Although with the mouse and the HDD I'm not sure, it was early in the morning. It was also pretty cold that morning, not sure if it would have any effect though.
