COUPEVILLE -- Two Oak Harbor women are headed to prison for their part in a high-speed crash that killed three people, including a soon-to-be father.
Prosecutors alleged that Jordyn Weichert and Samantha Bowling both were steering a Chevrolet Blazer on Sept. 3 when they lost control and slammed into an oncoming station wagon on Highway 20.
The crash killed the station wagon's driver, Brian Wood of Vancouver, B.C., and injured his pregnant wife. Also killed in the crash were Francis Malloy and Jacob Quistorf, both backseat passengers in Weichert's sport utility vehicle.
A judge Friday sentenced Weichert to eight years in prison. Bowling was sentenced to five years behind bars.
A jury last month convicted Weichert of multiple felony charges. Her sentence was about six months shy of the maximum established by the state's sentencing guidelines commission.
Bowling pleaded guilty in April to three counts of vehicular homicide and, in an unrelated case, to one count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss a vehicular assault charge as part of the plea. Bowling agreed to a sentence above the standard range. She also agreed to testify during Weichert's trial.
Weichert, then 20, allegedly told Washington State Patrol troopers she was driving when she decided to remove her sweater. She asked Bowling, 22, to steer. Weichert said that Bowling let go before Weichert put her hands back on the steering wheel. The Blazer began to drift off the road and both women grabbed the steering wheel and jerked it to the left. The Blazer crossed into the oncoming lane and collided with the Woods' station wagon.
Erin Wood later reported that in the moments before the crash her husband slammed on the brakes and jerked the wheel to the right to avoid a head-on crash. He likely saved his wife's life and that of his unborn daughter.
Erin Wood has since given birth to the couple's only child. She spoke at Friday's emotional hearing.
She told the judge, "The first thought when I wake up in the morning is 'he's gone,' and the last thought before I fall asleep is the same," according to The Herald's news partner KIRO 7.
Justice has been served :toot:
He made Men of War, right?
Three kills, eight years, that's fairly lenient.

It was accidental and from drunk driving, not cold-blooded murder.
Ruining someone's life and locking them up in jail for the rest of it for an accident won't avenge anyone.

People with drug problems still have lives with potential too, you know.

yeah you're right, lets just totally remove any consequences for taking someone else's life thanks to your own wrecklessness

I know, and I'd usually be on the side of 'rehabilitate!', but damnit, I liked that game, and his wife is pregnant.
So basically I'm proving the point that people with some interest to the victim should have absolutely no say in the sentence received.
Seriously people who drive drunk are just as bad as cold blooded murders. You're risking your own life and every one elses on the road and side walk, when all you have to do is get a cab, or walk.

I never said that, way to be immature as hell. They got eight years.
People get run over every day. There isn't anything special about this case.

no

so going to prison for 8 years is too much punishment for taking the lives of 3 innocent people in the prime of their lives?
yeah, poor her, i cant believe she has to actually face consequences for killing 3 people
Are they being jailed in Canadia or Americia?
8 years and 5 years. Usually they do half with time off for good behavior. So that means 4 years and 2 1/2 years. Usually they get time served credit for the time they are in jail after being arrested till their sentencing. From September till now is about 9 months. So then the one will probably be in jail for about 3 more years and the other a little under 2 more years.
The only part that makes me mad is that I, as a guy, know that if I rammed a car head on and killed three people because I was driving recklessly, I'd get a lot more than a few years. Especially if I was a heroin dealer and was high at the time I was driving.

They killed three people and ruined the life of another, not including the family and friends of any of them. They deprived a mother of her husband, and a child of it's father. They took a risk by allowing themselves to drive while intoxicated, and obviously had little regard for the law to begin with by having heroine they intended to distribute.
You should be responsible for your own actions. Can't trust yourself not to hop into a car while drunk? Hide the keys and walk, or have someone else take you to and from the bar. There is no excuse.

Damn that's depressing...
Feels like starting with a rainy day every day, with an emotionless face, as if there was no reason to smile...
Once again, the developers of CoH truly work...in a company of heroes.

You do know about those drug addicts that would kill someone for a shot of crack? Well, they exist.
It was a sad day when I read the news he had been killed, especially with wife and a child on the way.

Very profound.
This fucker deserves life. He left a child without a father and a wife without a husband.
If that happened to my family member, and the men responsible only got 8 years in jail... It would suck, because I would be convicted of murder 8 years later for exacting 'actual' justice.
Drunk drivers who kill people deserve no mother fucking leniency. None.

Not how the justice system works.

Luckily, conclusion jumping preteens do not rule in court cases.
