• Minecraft won't run

I'm posting this here because I figure its something wrong with Ubuntu itself and not Minecraft. I can't seem to get to even the main menu of the game. I got in game once but it was very laggy. I have tried the so called "black screen" fix which worked once but never again. I have even tried reinstalling Java and other things. I'm hoping maybe someone can use some sort of remote control software and fix this for me because I've tried everything I possibly can. Thanks
First of all, how are you launching it? Using Sun's Java (Oracle's Java), or the OpenJDK version bundled with Ubuntu?
openjdk is buggy as all fuck with MC. Don't even consider using it. If you can even get it to boot you'll notice massive FPS drops even on fast graphics + no smooth lighting + tiny render. With the normal sun-java6-bin (or whatever the package is, I uninstalled linux a bit ago and I hear it's a different package now) I could usually get around 40 fps with 128x packs on some old HP laptop, but somewhere around 10 with default textures on openjdk.
Yeah openjdk because I can't get normal java to install
Odd, openjdk is the only one that runs well for me.
I've used openjdk fine, despite what others have said. edit: did something happen to post counts?
Odd, openjdk is the only one that runs well for me.
For me only openjdk works for the launcher, and the sun for in the browser.
Openjdk doesn't work well for me. I use Sun's.
Can someone help me with installing Sun's Java? I've tried following multiple tutorials and still can't seem to get it
Can someone help me with installing Sun's Java? Why they did that is beyond me, but the Sun Java Jre in available via that repository. I think it's named "partner something-something" Should be able to enable it with Synaptic package manager.
I can't seem to find it
I can't seem to find it
You should be able to download it from java.com.
You should be able to download it from java.com.
Then what do I do with it? I can't get it to install and I've tried a few times :saddowns:
On ubuntu 10.10 you might need the community PPA This explains it pretty well http://java.dzone.com/articles/sun-java-6-ubuntu-1004-1010?utm_source=am6_feedtweet&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=toya256ForRSS
Thank you! Awesome! But it still hangs at a black screen after login... :eng99:
I finally got Minecraft installed and encountered the same problem..
You might want to try to delete the ~/.minecraft/bin folder, then launch the game again. You could also launch minecraft through the terminal and post the output. If it crashes there has to be an error.
You might want to try to delete the ~/.minecraft/bin folder, then launch the game again. You could also launch minecraft through the terminal and post the output. If it crashes there has to be an error.
How do I launch it through the console?
cd /path/to/minecraft/folder #Where Minecraft.jar is located java -jar Minecraft.jar
So upon launching the game I get
aaron@fmp-aaron:~/.minecraft$ java -jar Minecraft.jar java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "javaw": java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directory at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:460) at net.minecraft.MinecraftLauncher.main(MinecraftLauncher.java:31) Caused by: java.io.IOException: java.io.IOException: error=2, No such file or directory at java.lang.UNIXProcess.<init>(UNIXProcess.java:148) at java.lang.ProcessImpl.start(ProcessImpl.java:65) at java.lang.ProcessBuilder.start(ProcessBuilder.java:453) ... 1 more java.io.FileNotFoundException: /home/aaron/.minecraft/lastlogin (No such file or directory) at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method) at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:106) at net.minecraft.LoginForm.readUsername(LoginForm.java:72) at net.minecraft.LoginForm.<init>(LoginForm.java:42) at net.minecraft.LauncherFrame.<init>(LauncherFrame.java:20) at net.minecraft.LauncherFrame.main(LauncherFrame.java:137) at net.minecraft.MinecraftLauncher.main(MinecraftLauncher.java:36)
And then once it actually crashes I get
28 # # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGBUS (0x7) at pc=0xb7802271, pid=2403, tid=3016309616 # # JRE version: 6.0_21-b06 # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (17.0-b16 mixed mode, sharing linux-x86 ) # Problematic frame: # C [ld-linux.so.2+0x9271] # # An error report file with more information is saved as: # /home/aaron/.minecraft/hs_err_pid2403.log # # If you would like to submit a bug report, please visit: # http://java.sun.com/webapps/bugreport/crash.jsp # The crash happened outside the Java Virtual Machine in native code. # See problematic frame for where to report the bug. # Aborted
The error log can be downloaded here http://www.mediafire.com/?chs4mm745lq4ioz as it is somewhat lengthy
Thats a problem with your graphics drivers not being installed (or not having the 3D part installed).
Thats a problem with your graphics drivers not being installed (or not having the 3D part installed).
I had a bit of a feeling thats what it was...where do I get ATI drivers for Ubuntu?

Alright I have the drivers saved to my desktop but I can't install them. Going to additional drivers like that page says doesn't do shit
Hey guys, I'm having a fun problem with this too. I got the launcher to work, but I can't log in because I'm at school, and minecraft.net is blocked. Is it possible for me to authenticate through a proxy or something? [editline]21st March 2011[/editline] Running ubuntu 10.whatever
