Hey there facepunch. Well, I want a powerful new computer, and I think I may have found a solution to my current bottlenecked computer. Current specs- eMachine W5233 Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz Dual Core 2 x 512MB DDR2 266MHz RAM ATi Radeon HD 4870 512MB GDDR5 - bottlenecked like a BITCH. 650W Seasonic S12 250GB SATA 7200RPM (Seagate) Windows Vista Home Premium 32Bit (most likely will be upgrading OS before sold) Parts being taken out before sale: ATi Radeon HD 4870 Seasonic S12 650W Parts being put IN before sale: Bestec 300W (288w max) Specs when being sold: Intel Pentium D 3.0GHz Dual Core 2 x 512MB DDR2 266MHz Intel GMA 950 Bestec 300W PSU 250GB SATA 7200RPM (will install os of buyers choice, XP, 7, or will keep the same.) Standard 16X DVD Drive What I plan to get: $225 least, first offer $250. Oh guess what, the buyer will get THREE KEYBOARDS OMG AMAZING FOR (about) 10 DOLLARS EXTRA. :v: Ok, now time to see what I plan to get. I have an extra Seagate 250GB SATA drive, so I can use that for the new PC. Also, since I am keeping the HD 4870 and the PSU that should save me plenty. I dont need a monitor, speakers, dvd-drive, keyboard, or a mouse. So that's a saved like 30 bucks excluding the monitor. W/ the monitor I was going to buy it would be another 170 dollars. Haha, no. Ok, now time to see the new build. For real this time. So. My plan, obviously is to sell the current PC (excluding the good stuff) for around $250. Then, keeping the good stuff, I should save a bunch with what I have already, then I will buy whats in that pic (hopefully to be revised to save a few bucks). Things I could use some help on: I don't give two shits what the case looks like, so long as everything fits well and there is decent air circulation. If you can find one better than current for around the same price, I would be very happy. I got cheap RAM in that build, but I think it will be fine. I won't need anything better, and that speed is good for me. Suggestions would be nice. Any other suggestions would be much obliged. Thank you and have a good day :D
That looks like a decent PC. If you do manage to get some more money, try to get an i5 2500k (which will also need a motherboard change). But overall, that should be good enough. Although you probably should get a better HDD. My games library is only small and my 640GB HDD is almost full. Try go with a cheapo 1TB hard drive.
Finally, a reply. Thank you. I will look for some other deals on hard drives, and i would get the i5 but I don't have the money really. But the Phenom should suffice with that machine. I will make a thread and a video of me building it as well :D (timelapse)
Get a different cooler, or no cooler at all. I would scrap the cooler and get a HAF 912 case, which will give you better cooling overall.
Wait, you are saying using no heatsink on the processor is better than having one if I get a better case? That doesn't sound right. I think I am going to go w/ a heatsink to play it safe. Unless you can provide factual information about it. If this is the case, then you could save me ten bucks. [editline]19th July 2011[/editline] Actually, I have an idea. I totally forgot that the processor will come with a heatsink. Well, I am going to use that for now, and if it doesn't provide proper cooling, then it wont be a problem to get a new heatsink that is better.
I don't know about the stock heatsink for the Phenom, but the i5 stock is pretty good and that cooler you had in the picture is pretty bad. If you can spring for a Hyper 212+, then it's worth it. Anything under that is not really worth buying.
the i5 stock is pretty good
not really, i5 2_s just run cool enough to overclock a bit on it [editline]19th July 2011[/editline] and it still uses pushpins
1. I'm not sure of that fan, I would take a diffrent one but it's up to you. 2. Haf are good cases but more expensive. 3. AMD will do fine, i5 2500K would be faster but will you need it? (I hate waiting so yes for me) but the AMD will do fine. 4. Not a great fan a mATX motherboard but they have there uses is small cases, but a ATX or E-ATX is more my style since more room gives me a relaxed mind. 5. I would say no to the sata cable since you get it with your motherboard but it's free so why not? 6. A diffrent cooler would be nicer, I really like the Muggen Rev2 when I was on air, you can also use the stock, but don't leave it there naked or it will burn itself a new skin.
Alright. I did some poking around, and I managed to get the price down quite a bit. 1. Figured that since the case comes with fans I wont be purchasing any. 2. Got rid of aftermarket heatsink. 3. Got a different board that's slightly cheaper but should handle everything I have selected like a charm. Saved $51
I would not go with that motherboard it looks out dated [editline]20th July 2011[/editline] it doesnt even have support for your phenom 955
Haha, wtf is "Team Elite"? Sounds like some shit backwater brand. Get memory from a reputable manufacturer like Kingston, Corsair, Crucial or G.Skill.
That's a very crappy motherboard
I would not go with that motherboard it looks out dated [editline]20th July 2011[/editline] it doesnt even have support for your phenom 955
Umm, yeah it does? The processor uses an AM3 socket, and that is what the board has. Also, it says "CPU Type" under "Supported CPU" and listed are Phenom II, Anthlon II, and Sempron 100 series. But I will probably change it anyways. I just hope this computer I am using now gets sold in good time for me to purchase these parts.
If you want to save a few bucks, get this Phenom II x3. You have a strong chance of being able to unlock the forth core on it, so you might end up saving $25 off of the Phenom II x4, and getting the exact same thing. It's even Black Edition! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103652 Keep in mind though that it doesn't come with a cooler. So get the Hyper 212 from here: http://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Hyper-Sleeve-RR-B10-212P-G1/dp/B002G1YPH0 or here: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4951798 because it is $20 overpriced on Newegg
$5 cheaper than amazon http://www.frys.com/product/5971334?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
