5770 = roughly a GTS 250.
But the 5770 is much much cheaper. So that would be your cost effective GPU.

The 5770 out performs the gts 250 in other games.
But the 5770 is about $20 more than the 250 GTS

The 5770 stomps all over the GTS250(aka 9800GTX aka OC'd 9800 aka rebranded 8800) in most games.

The GTS 250 is smaller than both the 9800 and 8800, it consumes less power than the two, and only requires one 6-pin power connector. With this in mind it still has a small boost to performance with the higher clock, and is also cheaper than the 9800 (something nVidia need to rectify).

When I bought my GTS 250 1gb it cost me £130, the 5770 512 would have set me back £140. I think I knew where the better deal was.
