Dr. Kent Brantly, the Samaritan’s Purse doctor who contracted Ebola while caring for patients in Liberia, will be released from Emory University Hospital in Atlanta today after completing his recovery from the deadly virus. “Today I join all of our Samaritan’s Purse team around the world in giving thanks to God as we celebrate Dr. Kent Brantly’s recovery from Ebola and release from the hospital,” Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham said in a statement. “Over the past few weeks I have marveled at Dr. Brantly’s courageous spirit as he has fought this horrible virus with the help of the highly competent and caring staff at Emory University Hospital. His faithfulness to God and compassion for the people of Africa have been an example to us all.” Dr. Brantly survived the virus that typically causes massive internal bleeding and has a mortality rate of 60 to 90 percent in most situations. The current outbreak of Ebola has claimed more than 1,350 lives in the west African countries of Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. [editline]21st August 2014[/editline] He was treated with an experimental serum as well, so this might be the beginning of an effective treatment for Ebola, or at least something that can drastically improve peoples chances, but it needs more testing before we know more.
I am so glad he pulled through; He's a testament to what applied human knowledge can achieve. First step in the long journey of conquering Ebola.
thinking of a different guy
Nancy Writebol, the other infected American that was given the experimental serum has also recovered and been discharged! [editline]21st August 2014[/editline] http://www.cbsnews.com/news/ebola-patients-kent-brantly-and-nancy-writebol-discharged-from-hospital/
Hope it doesn't become resistant to this vaccine any time soon, ebola can fuck off
Hope it doesn't become resistant to this vaccine any time soon, ebola can fuck off
It's not clear whether or not the serum is what helped, or the supportive treatment. A spanish person who worked in west africa and got infected also got the experimental serum but didn't survive.
Man you gotta feel so damn lucky when you walk out the hospital doors after ebola.

Theoretically, he is now immune, which makes him ideally suited for returning to his work in helping the infected patients in Liberia again. Not sure if he'd want to go back though.
Not surprised. Since these guys are treated in a place that's not a landfill and since they were probably in good health before contracting it, it makes it easy to recover.
hows that for the ultimate one-up in a pissing contest, "i've been hit by a car!" "oh ya, i survived fucking ebola, what now?"
