His songs are great, a lot of them use samples from well known songs, the lyrics are so down to earth and sometimes funny. DJ Tiesto dropped his new song at a festival I was at about a month ago, when you have the world's biggest DJ playing your song, you know you're getting somewhere. It's not your conventional rap about gangs, killing and drugs; Example focuses more on love, politics and life so give him a chance: Watch The Sun Come Up - This is his latest song that's finally made it onto the radio, it's a changed version of one of his older songs, One Night. Fast Car - Samples Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, it's a story about how he stole his dad's flash car to impress a girl and ended up crashing it. One Night - Samples Heartbeats by j=Joes Gonzalez*, the clue is in the name. Telling the tale of a one nighter he met after a gig. This song was used to create his latest track Alone With The TV - A collaberation with Mike Skinner from The Streets, telling the tale of a past ex who left him and cleared him out. I Don't Want To - Quite a funny song, telling the familiar story of having a one night stand and how the girl becomes so clingy the next morning That's all the music I have to post for now, I'll update later when I have more time, look for some of his songs on Youtube though, 95% of them are great.
I liked One Night, the first song is something I would hear in a commercial of some sort. Example is also on Spotify: http://open.spotify.com/artist/6Vh6UDWfu9PUSXSzAaB3CW Hey, I kinda like him. I'm getting an album.
Yeah, I still don't like it. Oh and with One Night, i'd so much rather listen to the original song, it was the only good thing about that version. I just really don't find 'talking with a monotonous beat' good to listen to no matter who's doing it or how talented they are at, uh, talking fast with a beat.

What do you mean? Do I enjoy the genre? No, but the OP said I might like it regardless of my preconcieved opions of the genre and I didn't so yeah.
I quite like him, thanks for the thread.
You're not really up with rap are you? :)
Or anything vaugely popular / entertaining ;) Keep an open mind people. The main reason I like him so much is because he doesn't take himself too seriously. I've been to see him when he played in Hoxton a few months back, after he'd finished his set he stayed at the club, had a chat with everyone and enjoyed the night instead of being ushered away by security guards and ignoring his fans.
Here's some more intellectual rappers/rap groups and rappers who aren't douchebags. People who got me to start rapping. Atmosphere Brother Ali A Tribe Called Quest Murs P.O.S. Mac Lethal Immortal Technique Dr. Octagon/Kool Keith Pharcyde Maverick MF Doom And much more that I haven't listed.
Fucking love ATCQ [editline]11:29AM[/editline] Also, Jurassic 5. Old school rap, not at all gangsta rapping about shooting guns and fucking up with drugs and shit like that.
I get sick of the stereotype of rappers being a chauvinistic, materialistic who's obsessed with being a "gangsta" or "playa", because rap is an art form, and even though there are rappers like that, there are plenty who aren't. Teenagers tend to be attracted to any music that is "controversial". Gangsters, drugs and materializing women is obvious shitty, so a lot of kids thinks it's fun to listen to them. Really, that's the only reason these douchebag excuses for MC's being on radio and tv is because of stupid shit like that. It is an art. I believe anyone capable of keeping a beat, writing good lyrics and freestyling is worthy of being a rapper. I'm originally from Columbia Heights, which is a shitty little city right outside Minneapolis. Just last year, not too long after I turned 17, I found a lot out about the underground rap scene. I overlooked them, even though they were in my back yard. I really hope someone promotes these rappers and hip-hop artists well enough to be the new icons of rap music.
It's ok. What I grew up listening to Here's some newer school that's good to. I really don't consider anything past 2000 rap, ever since then, rap died.
Some material in this thread is decent. I'm not really a rap fan, but I can respect what they do. Some of them. I can see that some artists actually put effort into the lyrics instead of just shitting out titles for money.
Roots of rap, hope you like it! So much better than todays rap n rnb
