Yea, it's been a while since I have done any tutorials, far too long in my opinion. Thus I am going to be showing you my process of painting robin hood for the www.conceptart.org Character of the Week competition.
First i get a 2500 x 2500 canvas and simply draw some thumbnails (little pictures) of composition, pose and how robin hood would look.
I picked one of him crouching, transferred it over to a 2000 X 2800 canvas and began adding adjustments to make him more detailed. I start off in the grey scale to keep the values correct as I work:

As I keep moving on I establish an interesting light source from front below, later on I decide to give some atmosphere by adding moonlight, this will also give it some more colors once I add those in. I keep on fleshing out the shapes using a large brush and working my way down to create details. As the size of the brush decreases, I increase the flow of the brush (largest :30%, smallest 80-90%). I do anatomical fixes, and add more interesting props to the character. I also fill in the background to set the mood and keep me focused on the character. I tend to take small breaks to keep my mind fresh and to see errors I could not before. Thus from here I got to this:

Will update this op as I continue on.
edit- just by taking the break to post this I found an issue with the eyes and the shoulders... have fixed.
I feel like his eyes are too far from his nose.
Why hasn't anyone commented on this?
Because this has no informative quality whatsoever. It's not really a tutorial.
It's still an artwork nonetheless.
How were these:

Above this yesterday. This almost slipped to the second page.
You're a fool. Artist regularly post processes of their work to give other artist's ideas of work flow, canvas size, and brush usage. This is not meant to help some random person working in Microsoft paint or someone who has no passion in digital painting. So I honestly wonder what is going through that mind of yours to say such a thing, when you have no clue what you are talking about.
Not directed at you onox.
Also onox, this is directed at a minority of artists on facepunch, most users here are here to have fun, nothing wrong with it. If it slips off the page, it will reappear when I update it, and the necessary artists who want the knowledge will view it.
I never said it wasn't artwork or that it was badly drawn. I said it wasn't informative and the topic title said tutorial, which could explain why no one took the time to comment to it as it being a tutorial - because it's not one.
People will generally give their opinion if you ask for it, but if you're presenting that as a tutorial, people won't have much to say because their opinion doesn't matter on a tutorial. If you're making a tutorial, it's because you're trying to teach people something, not get criticism on your art.
I don't get it, where's the tutorial? You're just showing us your progress on a project...
(Which is nice, by the way)
I will make it simple for you.
Artists like to view how other artists work. It is informative because it shows how that person's works, and they get some extra info on different things like canvas size and brushes. If you do not digitally paint, or want to become a digital painter, this will NOT help you. It is a tutorial aimed at a minority of facepunch artists. I already have said this.
Oh, thank you for explaining it so that someone like me who's obviously not an artist and has no intelligence whatsoever can understand it.
For future reference however, don't put an obvious tag like [Tutorial] on a thread title if you're using a definition that almost no one uses. Even the people you're trying to "teach" would assume you mean a step by step instruction through a specific course of action.
Maybe that's your opinion of a tutorial, but it doesn't define everyone's expectations. For example, this site: www.conceptart.org
The tutorial section is basically all processes of artists.
I never said you were not an artist, but you obviously assumed that this was not a tutorial since it did not fit your little rules, so I told you otherwise. So please, stop acting like a representative for a website where every person is an individual and has a varying opinion, it makes you look stupid.
You said yourself that this was aimed at a small minority of people here, that's why you should use titles that fit the environment you're posting in. Sure, plenty will get what you're trying to do after reading it, but everyone else is expecting instructions on how to produce something.
Look, when I came in here, I enjoyed the artwork and thought "Oh, that's what he means". The only reason I bothered posting an argument is that you called someone a "fool" in your own thread, which I feel is inappropriate.
Anyway, I've stated my opinion, and there's nothing more for me to say on that subject. I'm actually looking forward to seeing how it continues.
Ok, I find no reason to argue if you don't, I tend to be overly blunt and I realize that.
I apologize if I hurt anyone's feelings
You seem to have a slant with a lot of your digital artwork that i'm just now noticing.
Yea, an easy fix, I just need to flip the canvas to find the worst of it and straighten him up
Where the women at? All you ever show is drawings dudes. Nice drawing by the way.
You thinned him out a lot, I liked his build in the first wip shot.
also, when you tried to fix his eye placement, you gave him downs... I would scrap the old eyes and draw new ones.
Looking forward to the final..
Looking nice so far.

Women are bland in comparison with raw masculinity.
No homo.
I tend to draw males because to be honest I suck at digital and since I am a male it is the body type i"m most comfortable and familiar with.
Now my pencil drawing son the other hand have plenty of womenz.
