I play a lot of games on emulators and games that require no other control than arrow keys and several buttons. I find it hard to memorize the location of these on a keyboard, and controlling character's movement with my right hand feels slower than it would with my left.
I'm looking for a gamepad (or whatever you want to call it) under $20 with Windows 7 x64 support. I've been looking at several, but before I buy, I want to know about ones you've bought, for comparison.

And if need be, let this be the thread for discussion about gamepads you've bought (and like/hate) or want.
Wired 360 controller or a PS3 controller with Motionjoy (spelling??) is the way to go.
I own a Logitech Wired Rumblepad 2. It has never failed me.
Actually, I've never had a Logitech product fail on me. I would always buy from them when given the choice. (Except for that time when I was 10 and I chucked one at the wall in rage.)
Whatever you get, you want it to support xinput for newer GFW games. This is why I suggest a 360 controller, PS3 controllers can emulate 360 controllers, as well. I have two logitech controllers and they are fine, though - but not really worth it new.
I've got a wired Xbox 360 controller and I fucking love it.
Oh, and no matter what you get, look into a program called Joy2Key. It's a brilliant program, emulates keystrokes and mouse movement flawlessly.

I would have gone for a 360 controller, but I had three main things pulling me away.

I like the Sony layout more than the Xbox layout.

I like wired controllers.

Xbox controller was too expensive for me.
Though everyone I know who owns a 360 controller loves it to death.
I have one of these, http://ncix.com/products/?sku=56579&vpn=940-000110&manufacture=Logitech except the buttons are all black, you can also get the cheaper version, but it has a shitty dpad. http://ncix.com/products/?sku=34192&vpn=963292-0403&manufacture=Logitech
But its definitely worth it, I love mine.

I like both. The 360 controller triggers seem more precise if I wanted to use them in a racing game. But I much prefer the feel and weight of the PS3 controller. I use the 360 one more though as it is easier ot use, just plug it in and go. Motionjoy played me up once or twice.
I don't think I'd need the pressure sensitive triggers on the Xbox controller. I think that's the only thing going for it, from what I've seen.
Pretty much. The DPad is so badly placed, and the controller seems overly bulky. But automatic support by most GFWL games is nice.

The bulk is fine, It feels very comfortable for extended periods of time. I can't really compare it to a PS3 controller since I've only used one for about 10 minutes.
MotionJoy is only needed for PS1/2 controllers, since PS3 controllers are USB/Bluetooth.

But windows does not have a driver for it.

sixaxis drivers for windows exist, you just have to hunt them down.

yeah, motionjoy
I have a Logitech F310.
The only thing that bothers me is that the trigger is a bit awkward, but everything else is fine

Does it work on a 360? Apparently it's detected as one in Windows so it's probably a xinput pad and should work on the 360, if so it's not a bad choice for the OP.
i wish logitech made a better joystick in the $50-$60 range.
all they have is a cheap joystick, a little less cheap joystick, and then a fucking $200 monster
I use my PS3 controller for everything. A lot of games only support 360 controllers but it can be emulated through motionjoy
Indeed, PS3 controller and motionjoy is the way to go. Great controller and you don't have to buy anything extra.
My bad, I meant that SmartJoy was needed for Ps1/2 controllers.

Seems the overwhelming response is a PS3 controller. Will an unofficial one do?
No, get a 360 controller

I wouldn't risk it, you should really get an Xbox controller or a PS3 controller depending on what you're used to. You could probably find either one used in acceptable condition for half the price of new also
I've been a Playstation person my entire life, but the 360 controller is undeniably more comfortable.

yeah, especially people with above-average size hands
so I vote for the wired xbox 360 controller; I'm sure you'll be able to find a used one somewhere for under $20

The PS3 was only announced in 2005, meaning you would be around 5-6. :v:
I ended up getting a Classic Controller Pro, because it would work with Android devices as well.
I got an Xbox 360 wireless controller adapter for like $20 when Circuit City went out of business. Works like a charm for emulators and games like Just Cause 2.
Either a 360 controller or a Cordless Rumblepad 2.
