in short
broadcast games with less hassle
But you can't swear or play games with offensive content.
It's alright, I streamed cs:go on a full server and the fps didn't dip from 150 with 2 viewers (720p)
Too bad they didn't name it Steam Stream. Recently I thought "Valve is probably preparing a streaming service into their client right now". I was right.
Hopefully this means we can record and share videos via Steam later.
Do you need a certain computer specs?
I tried to stream once, but my CPU is a toaster.
Wow I forgot that they promised this like 3-4 years ago.
I tried streaming at 3500kbps and a friend said it was laggy, which is weird since I can stream with OBS or Shadowplay at 5000kbps just fine
The quality is fantastic!

Could be because it's under heavy load at the moment from everyone trying it out. Unless the streaming is P2P then one of you have a bad connection, most likely him.
I tried streaming at 720p 3500 kbps, looked absolutely fine. I hope they add framerate options though, 30 fps cap is kinda shitty.
Surprisingly hassle-free. And a 2-4 mbps upload is more than enough for 720p streaming, which is awesome.
I came across the porn one too. The guy is proving that admins are needed. :v:

but it says "should not include"
ill never understand wanting to watch porn with others
If the quality were good, I could actually imagine this as a roundabout means of getting someone to record footage incase the player and broadcaster themself actually cannot (like how I lack Shadowplay due to not having a modern enough NVIDIA card).
I wonder if i'll finally find out what the fuck someone is doing in gmod playing his 1000th hour
was streaming initial d earlier. had like 300 viewers. then it broke.
Needs a "do not broadcast" option
You always need a turn this thing off option when you implement something like this.
especially because with hackers online, this update could prove risky.

Pretty sure the hacker can't force your computer to start streaming unless he had access to it, in which case it wouldn't help if the broadcasting was disabled.
Just a quick hint that people don't actually know sometimes that they are streaming.
It also turns on your microphone by default.

First off, unless you set it to 'anyone can watch' in settings, it defaults to friends needing permission if they want to watch. You can change it between invites only, friends asking permission, any friends watching, and anyone watching. My mic setting defaulted to off as well. Second, by default it shows the chat logs of your broadcast in one of the corners, and a Live logo in the top-right corner; you can turn the chat logs off, but you'll know if people are watching you play by the Live, if any possible performance issues on more intensive games or shittier nets don't tip you off to begin with.
It also shows a popup like any other steam message when someone starts watching your stream. And it says "LIVE" in the top right corner of your game when you're streaming.
