a few months back i purchased a logitech g19 keyboard, and now I am planning on attending rAge (http://www.rageexpo.co.za/) But the only problem is that you are ONLY allowed to plug in a screen and pc, even if you use a Y cable. Now i need to use my lcd screen on my keyboard due to the fact that it provides my with endless amounts of data ingame... and ofcourse the macrokeys for DoTA... Now my question: Is there a way i can still access my screen and macrokeys without the power supply... I do not mind modifying it, warranty never meant much, but I would really like to be able to use it.
Would it be possible to mod the power cable into multiple USB cables to plug into the back of the PC to power it?
i honestly do not know, i am not very skilled with hardware, but that sounds like a viable option :)
it depends on the voltage and amperage the g19 draws a USB port supplies 5 volts at 0.5 amps
If you're not allowed to bring your own peripherals, it's probably for a reason. They might want to give everyone the same advantage in terms of keyboard and mouse.
the psu for the keyboard supplies 5v with 2400ma
If you're not allowed to bring your own peripherals, it's probably for a reason. They might want to give everyone the same advantage in terms of keyboard and mouse.
The g19 needs to be plugged into a wall socket as well, which is what is causing this issue.
you are allowed to bring your peripherals, just not allowed to plug anything other than your screen and tower into the power
And they won't make an exception? That seems very harsh :|
so to confirm, if i were to modify the powersupply to extend to 3 usb ports, i should be able to run it without the power cord? [editline]05:49PM[/editline] yea, i have had several emails and phone calls, but they do not want to allow it
2500ma? Wow. OP: get an extension cord with 3 power plugs. Technically you're only using 1 of their plugs. :v: [editline]12:23PM[/editline] I don't know about adding USB power plugs. The amount of splicing and connectors seems like eh. [editline]12:24PM[/editline] Wow I didn't read the OP thoroughly, sorry. Well that's dumb... it's only a keyboard, jesus christ what's the big deal with plugging stuff in?
Wow I didn't read the OP thoroughly, sorry. Well that's dumb... it's only a keyboard, jesus christ what's the big deal with plugging stuff in?
The electric bill.
The electric bill.
It's a KEYBOARD. It's like plugging in two flash drives to your computer. I find this dumb.
yea, i know, i also find it stupid, but that is there rulez... PS: we are not allowed extensions or multiplugs either... So i NEED to go through usb or some internal method to power it
Well, I guess you will need to find the plug needed for your G19's power, and splice 3 USB ports in parallel to it.
ok, thank you, i shall get to that asap
If you could do without the screen or backlighting you can use the keyboard minus power supply.
ok, thank you, i shall get to that asap
Godspeed. You know how to solder and use heatshrink? Actually you know what, you could just use wire nuts. This is a temporary job. [editline]12:58PM[/editline]
If you could do without the screen or backlighting you can use the keyboard minus power supply.
Read the OP.

Bypass USB and hook it up directly to a molex connector
Bypass USB and hook it up directly to a molex connector
"Max. current 11 A/pin (30 °C rise)" ...oh. That is smart, yeah. Just sap off the red and black cables then.
Read the OP.
Thanks for reminding me, but I already have! I'm presenting with information so he can make the right decision about whether he wants to mod his $200 keyboard. It's possible that he can live without the screen, maybe he just thought you needed power to use the keyboard at all.

I'm saying that, because he said that he "needs to use my lcd screen on my keyboard due to the fact that it provides my with endless amounts of data ingame... and ofcourse the macrokeys for DoTA... " So That's why I said read the OP. And why we're all fretting over getting his power hooked up.
You will actually need 5 USB ports to give you 2.5A (2500mA). You can also play with your power cables inside your computer, those will give more amps.

Wall adapters wouldn't work with it, because they usually provide only 500 mA.
Alright. [opinion]I personally don't think it's worth modding a power for it for in game data on a small screen. However, I don't game that much so I wouldn't understand fully[/opinion] It's still up to you OP to weigh the pros and cons of it.

He's just making a new power plug for it. I don't like modifying stuff either, but making it work without any harm is another thing.

ok, after considering this thoroughly, I have decided to still go ahead with the mod, but now reading through, what exactly are you meaniny by connecting teh molex power and using the powercables inside my case, etc... Apologies again for the noob question, but I specialize in software

They are also more powerful than using USB to power up your keyboard, but a cost is you will have to run wires out your computer and into your keyboard (which isn't a big deal)
