I had a $1,300 budget. I wanna know if this is a good bang for my buck: https://secure.newegg.com/WishList/MySavedWishDetail.aspx?ID=20576247
it's..in the nicest way "a piece of shit that's going to explode"

This will not spontaneously combust.. (Last combo is http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.657880)

Add this for overclocking http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103065&cm_re=hyper_212-_-35-103-065-_-Product
Exactly, why is it going to explode? :v I just want to run games decently, not any hardcore gaming.
Edit: I spent a good two or so hours configuring this with a friend who build pc's for a living, he said this was an excellent rig
Honestly, they look like good affordable parts so I really don't get it
The first build was entirely terrible, and your second list is also pretty bad. You probably don't need 8GB RAM, nor will you use a 6 core CPU (2500k will destroy it anyways). Get a Spinpoint F3 instead of the WD Black, and a GTX 570 usually outperforms the 6970, and is cheaper.
Go with what I originally recommended, you will see more performance..
I want the 8 gigs RAm for headroom and not having to upgrade for a while. And the i5 is a lot more expensive than I can get. The 570 is about the same range as a 6970 card I was looking at... And I'm an ATI fan... But I'll go with the 570 for this build until the 6990 is cheaper.
Also, looking around, the 6970 has 2 gigs of memory while the 570 has onle 1280 mBs. Not sure what to make of that.
GTX 570 is superior for games, especially with tesselation.
6970 is superior for repetitive GPU use, e.g. bitcoin mining, folding.
2gb vram is only needed for more than 2 monitors
570 it is. But the i5 is a little out of my range, even bundled with the mobo. I think the x6 will suffice for my gaming needs?
i5 will eat the x6 in gaming.
I'll think about it, I might need to down some other stuff.

And this being my first rig and all, I'm not too sure I know what I'm doing with aftermarket heatsinks, so is it ABSOLUTELY necessary?
You can do fine with stock heatsinks, they just dont allow for good overclocking and make more noise.
X6 is also a waste unless you have something that utilizes 6 cores (Games dont), like rendering.
Get an X4 or an i5, don't get the X6.

Intels i5 and i7 Sandy's still beat the AMD's current processors in every scenario.
