• Need a 500W PSU for around $30

I'm in need of a good, yet cheap PSU. It must have 2 two 75W 6-pin PCI Express power connectors included. Preferably something that won't explode. I'm in the US for record. Or is $30 simply too cheap? I know it's pushing it, but I'm strapped for cash at the moment. If it's too cheap, then I'll just go without a computer for a few weeks. In the event that such a small amount money put into a PSU would cause a fire, what's the cheapest effective one that meets my requirements?
Specs? What does it need to power? [editline]05:04PM[/editline] http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171031 $40 with free shipping, $10 MIR
APPHIRE Vapor-X Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP AMD 9600 Quad Core Clocked at 2.3 4 gig ram Single HD, not too demanding, 1 DVD drive. The works. Does it have enough PCI-E connectors though? [editline]04:11PM[/editline] Then again I do suppose I really only need one PCI-E. So that should suffice, don't you think? Thanks.
Yea, great psu.
Awesome, I'll place an order for it tomorrow. Thanks. Prismatex is always very helpful, I wonder why he isn't an admin yet? Hell, if there was a way to recommend him, I would.

When are we getting a replacement for Cosmic?
Zorlok.
Wasn't the rule of thumb, that the only piece of hardware you NEVER want to go cheap with was the PSU? Cheap PSU's have a much higher chance at failing, and a failed PSU = all of your components get fried. Most good PSU's tend to have safeguards to prevent frying the PC if they do fail, but then again most good PSU's will be $70+ When it comes to PSU parts, you get what you pay for. Please though someone enlighten me if this rule of thumb has managed to change within the past year or so.
It's a good psu, I personally own two of them. [editline]09:43PM[/editline] CM is a great brand too.
I have a cheap PSU that hasn't exploded yet, I'm a little afraid whenever I turn my computer on though. I think cheap ones are getting better, but not nearly as good and safe as the more expensive ones. I could be wrong though

Yeah, certain people just aren't cut out to be mods. As in, people who get banned 50+ times.
:ughh: Don't start that BS again. It used to be like that with John for a while.
Prismatex > John, but yeah since he's been banned over 100 times it's not going to happen.
I suppose the whole constantly getting banned thing is true. Therein, a cheap 500W PSU made by them is fine with me. Good reviews too. So why not.
Plus, being a FP mod is like being the playground monitor at a preschool.
Plus, being a FP mod is like being the playground monitor at a preschool.
Not easy work I can tell you that. They bite!
don't get rosewil, they are fireworks waiting to happen.
And who exactly suggested a Rosewill? That's right, no one.
Why the hell did I get rated dumb? I understand that it's stupid to buy a cheap PSU from an disreputable company. Like Rosewill or a company that no one recognizes. What the fuck? I completely understand this rule, but was wondering if there was an exception. Which, in this case there is. If you read enough reviews, it becomes rather assuring that you'll not get a fire starter. [editline]01:41AM[/editline] All people have complained about with this model is that the cables included are rather short, and have trouble reaching things; and the noise the transformer makes. One reviewer said: Reliable, I have used dozens of the Cooler Master Power Supplies and no problems. Sounds pretty good to me. There even seems to be the same average number of lemons with this product.
In the UK (not sure about US), as a rule of thumb, a quality PSU should cost about £10 per 100W. i.e. an OCZ stealth extreme 500W costs £45 and is a great PSU.
You can't really go on price, Corsair tends to be slightly expensive but they're excellent quality And there's that 500W $40 everyone reccomends it's far more influenced by brand than price

yes but that's obvious Price tends to depend more on the brand, OCZ do good quality PSUs for fairly standard price while Corsair are even better quality but tend to be more expensive
And who exactly suggested a Rosewill? That's right, no one.
I've got a nice 550w Rosewill PSU and it works great, it was actually made with quality, and I was surprised taking it out of the box and putting it in.
But in general a $50 500W is going to be better quality than a $50 1000W.
Find me a $50 1000W and I will buy it just to document the explosion.

[editline]02:05PM[/editline]
Oh god you were giving a non-persistent dumb rating, how ever you will survive?
I don't care in the least. But I would like to see what logic there is behind rating me that. As I did absolutely nothing meriting that, and would like to clarify, for others better understanding.
