Retina Display vs. Standard Display (My Pictures) - Hardware & Software

I recently picked up a new camera with a pretty decent macro, so I thought of nothing better but to try it out on my iPhones. This is a pretty direct comparison between the iPhone 3G/3GS and iPhone 4. someone utilize an led light that can interchange between red blue and green and make a combination of them so that rgb isnt needed

That is usually what large signs or stadium size screens are done with, as far as i am aware. The problem is that you simply cannot shrink LED's to the size of a pixel. See what they have done to the reception bars. It drives me NUTS with my OCD as it just seems so... wrong.

I love macro mode. And holy shit. And I thought the pixels on a 320 x 480 screen were tiny.

Meh. I can live with my 3G's low-res screen. The retina display is beatiful, but I wouldn't want to buy a phone just because it has prettier pixels.

I hate that people call it retina display. Retina is what they chose to call it, you can basically call your mouse james lee and start marketing it as "new and upgraded, james lee" It's the same thing. Retina doesn't mean shit. What it REALLY is, is nothing but a screen with higher resolution than the older one, nothing more, nothing less. And especially not retina. Don't buy into it people! :/

Well, for me, I see a big difference between the display on the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 3GS, but the difference isn't that big when you compare it to some of the new Android phones. The difference is; the iPhone 3GS was outdated already when it was released.

Noone is using "iphone" as a technical term, though they use retina as one. iPhone is the name of a cellular phone from Apple, just like the htc evo is from HTC. People call it evo, people call my phone googlephone, nexus one etc etc. It's a big difference which you seem to completely miss.

Someone should go on this thread on their iphone 4, and do the exact same thing as the OP, whilst looking at the OP's pictures.

I pinched the screen so the pictures tried to match the real size that they would be, and could see that the non iphone 4 photos really stood out with big pixels

you really notice the amazing screen on the iph4 when you see it in person. kinda looks like paper with print on it. pretty much got the iph 4 free too.
