Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has proposed to his Italian counterpart Franco Frattini to head a delegation of European diplomats to the Gaza Strip, Channel Two news reported Thursday.
This proposal marks a striking shift in Israeli policy, which has been to discourage and even prevent foreign officials from visiting the Palestinian territory since Hamas violently wrestled control over Gaza in 2007.

According to the report, Lieberman suggested that Frattini and the other European diplomats also invest in Gaza's infrastructure.
Earlier Thursday, the Council of Europe parliamentarians called on Israel to completely end its siege of the Gaza Strip, days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an ease of the land blockade, which it imposed in 2007.
The Council of Europe parliamentarians Thursday called on Israel to completely end its siege of the Gaza Strip, days after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered an ease of the land blockade.
Israel should allow goods to be delivered to the coastal enclave by land and sea, "without prejudice to its own security," so Palestinians can enjoy "normal living conditions," said the resolution adopted by a large majority of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
PACE, consisting of parliamentarians from the 47 members of the Council of Europe, meets four times a year to debate topical issues and give policy advice to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
The parliamentarians also criticized the Israeli raid of a Gaza- bound aid flotilla last month as a breach of international law, calling it "manifestly disproportionate."
The group additionally called on Israel to halt the construction of new settlements in occupied territories and East Jerusalem.
Israel's recent easing of the Gaza blockade was described as a "first step" by the assembly. But completely lifting the blockade is "essential" to lower tensions and revive the dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians, the Italian social democrat and assembly rapporteur Piero Fassino said.
As part of its efforts to bring peace to the Middle East, PACE regularly brings together members of the Israeli Knesset and the Palestinian Legislative Council for talks.
Yes, because letting the Hamas have weapons and stuff, while the civilian population already has whatever it wants anyway, will do only good!
Everytime they want Israel to do something, nothing happens. Sigh.......

What? Is protesting against the Hamas getting weapons dumb now?
Doesn't sound very secure to invest in.
What? Is protesting against the Hamas getting weapons dumb now?
No, the part about civilians getting everything they want is. At least considering the official contraband list...
What? Is protesting against the Hamas getting weapons dumb now?
You're not arguing against Hamas, you're supporting the systematic oppression of the Palestinians.
You're like those ignorant rednecks that say "bomb dem AAAA-RAB countries cause dey got dem ter'rist der".
Yes, because not letting them have weapons that will kill civilians is oppressing them systematically.
You are a blind fool. That is all I have to say.

A blind fool who just showed you that your arguments are invalid.
A blind fool who just showed you that your arguments are invalid.
No, A blind fool with three feet, all of which are in your mouth.
BurnEmDown is from Israel and is just ignorant.
Finally some good news.
Yeah, ignore the fact that you don't have an argument, just accuse me of ignorance and act like you've won the argument.
That's obviously how you prove yourself right.
Also, informative note: burnemdown lives in Israel.
And none of you guys live in Israel or the Middle-east so you obviously know more about it!
A blind fool who just showed you that your arguments are invalid.
You showed me nothing, you just spewed the bullshit that you have been indoctrinated with by your government since birth. You're unable to see the truth. I'd pity you if you hadn't been shown time and time again just how wrong you are, but you have so this garbage is just fucking tiring.
What? I couldn't hear you over the sound of the Palestinians getting everything they need: http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3907978,00.html
Oh wow, lifting the embargo on 'non military items' (such a vague term) 4 days ago suddenly makes everyone A-Okay after being in effect for the past 3 years! Especially after the embargo has staved Gaza of jobs and made it to where nobody has any money to buy anything :downs:
Yes, because not letting them have weapons that will kill civilians is oppressing them systematically.
Since the embargo has stopped their ability to continue to fire rockets that have only killed 10 people over the nine years has worked so well hasn't it?
Seriously, 10 people after firing over 10 thousand rockets for nearly a decade and they are still firing thousands of rockets a year regardless of the embargo, so how is it working at preventing them from getting weapons?
And don't you even fucking imply lifting the embargo will allow them to have Tanks and SCUDs since you fucking know it won't.
Yeah, ignore the fact that you don't have an argument, just accuse me of ignorance and act like you've won the argument.

No, no, instead I'll ignore all factual evidence and post some stupid edited videos in favor of the IDF. That's what I'll do.
Yes, because letting the Hamas have weapons and stuff, while the civilian population already has whatever it wants anyway, will do only good!
What's Hamas going to do with humanitarian goods and construction materials? Cement cannons? Steel Rebar for swords or for making rifle barrels?

As we all know thanks to the flotilla raid, crude metal objects is a serious threat to Israeli special forces.
Seriously though, lifting the blockade and allowing the industries in Gaza to grow and generate jobs would be a good thing.

Yeah, maybe after the 10 years of rocket launches will stop, everything will be A-Okay in Israel as well. And don't forget about those suicide bombings!
And 'military items' mean just that. All food is allowed, together with various other things such as clothing, books, whatever.

The blockade has stopped too Iranian ships filled to the brim with weapons, rockets, and so on. Without the blockade, even more would have been sent. Oh, and those aren't the shitty rockets that the Hamas make in their backyard, these were military-grade rockets, able to strike as far as Jerusalem or Tel-Aviv, and are quite deadly and precise.

Maybe, but it would mean that they'll get all the things I've listed above.

You claimed that I don't care about the Hamas getting weapons, but rather that I want the Palestinians to starve and be oppressed systematically. This is quite stupid because you are questioning my motives, something you can't prove. I could just say that you don't care about the Palestinians, and just want Israel to be bombarded with rockets. Frankly I think this makes much more sense than me wanting the Palestinians to be oppressed.

Yeah sure, and America giving Israel weapons doesn't stir up a shit, does it?
Yeah sure, and America giving Israel weapons doesn't stir up a shit, does it?
Because Israel doesn't use it specifically against civilians. Civilians are hit by it too, obviously, but that's war. Hamas on the other hand intentionally fires on Israeli cities in order to hurt its civilians and government using terror.
And also, during the Gaza war, Hamas hid in civilian buildings and fired rockets from there, didn't let the civilians leave, and were pretty much responsible for most of the civilian deaths, which could have been easily avoided if it weren't for them.

You're claiming that the blockade in its current form is necessary, despite the turmoil it causes for innocent civilians in Gaza. It isn't hard to see that you care less about the safety of Israel and more about the oppression of the Palestinians.
And none of you guys live in Israel or the Middle-east so you obviously know more about it!
we don't need to live in the middle east to know about it
BurnEmDown is an Israeli and is obviously biased
must be all that propaganda that they teach the kids in school

I said that overall it's necessary, but I thought that the food ban and all that stuff which is considered "luxurious" should be allowed, regardless of the fact that it has a point too.
And now all food will be allowed with no restrictions, and guess what? I'm happy about it. So what do you have to say now.
Because Israel doesn't use it specifically against civilians.
