Game Design Companion: A Critical Analysis of Wario Land 4 is a 600-page eBook that will analyze the entirety of Wario Land 4. I'll just give you a moment to let that sentence sink in. Seriously, Daniel Johnson has put together 600 pages of critical analysis on Wario Land 4 to, as he says, take the structure of videogame design in this under-appreciated gem and cover topics such as mechanics, psychology, education, level design, and game feel.
Daniel wants to pursue evidence-based analysis of games rather than socio-culture critique. The same thing has already happened in virtually any other medium, with things like Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings being so epic and complex that there are numerous college classes taught focusing on various aspects within that universe alone.
Well... why not :v:
Hey, it's a great game
If Wario is so rich, why does he still wear the same clothes?
seriously? wario land 4 was by far the worst and least fun wario land. 2 and 3 where it's at. 4 is a big turd.

A: He's a miser.
Ha, I expected it to be a doctorate or master degree project, but nope, done for passion alone.
Still pretty damn sweet.
Wonder how many pages he would fill if he did the entire Wario Land series.
If you're smart enough to write 600 pages of relevant information on any topic no matter how small, then good on you and go ahead because nobody else has the right to tell you no.

This is the only Wario game I ever played.. I loved it though.
Might try other Wario games trough an emulator of some sort.
I wrote a 2500 word essay on the upcoming Ubisoft game Watchdogs and how it explores the social context in which it exists as part of my final year bachelors degree work so I don't see why this book shouldn't exist!
I was instructed to write a 7 page essay on a novel.
I couldn't manage 1 page.
I envy this man.
Man, I really miss the weird style that this game brought forward. This and the first few WarioWare games just had this amazing visual and sound style that kind of faded out after the GBA era came to a close. The later WarioWare games just felt too formulaic and "normal" to me.
I never understood Wario's origin or purpose.

I never understood why they don't milk wario a little bit
they have this apparently amazing game but don't touch it? I never played it, but seems people really give a damn.

Presumably because they wanted a new Mario series antagonist other than Bowser but more memorable than Tatanga or Wart. What better fit than a rogue Mario counterpart?

Japan's playerbase seems to have fallen in love with the WarioWare games far more greatly than the Wario Land games. And since Nintendo is Japan-based, they tend to take domestic opinion more highly over international opinion.

Do you just have controversial opinions for the sake of it?

rusty100 "Controversy" Charles.

What I remember reading is that the team who made the Mario/Wario Land games (R&D1, a team without Miyamoto in it) hated that they had to work on a Mario game for the Game Boy, since Nintendo fostered competition internally and they wanted to make sequels to Metroid and Kid Icarus. Because of Mario's popularity and because Miyamoto's team was busy with Super Mario World on SNES, they had to make at least ONE Mario game. Super Mario Land and Super Mario Land 2 (the game that introduced Wario) were the result. By introducing Wario, the team felt they could make their own version of Mario by putting their own unique spin on things. Although the games were already pretty different than the typical Mario fare at the time. They're actually pretty weird for Mario games.
Oh yeah, and they did eventually make new Metroid and Kid Icarus games. (Metroid II and Kid Icarus: of Myths and Monsters respectively.)

Warioland 4 is one of the best GBA games in my opinion. It's just a very well made platformer with kickass music.

How can one disagree with Rusty? His opinions are facts.

Also, the Warioland engine was used as the base for Metroid Fusion.
wario and conker are the best nintendo characters

Ignore him, he's one of the worst posters here.
Also, i wish i could write an essay about anything for more than a page and a half.
I love this game dearly so I'm buying this book shortly
I'll let you guys know if it's worth the five bucks
It seems kind of silly to me; but hell, more Wario is always welcome.
Kind of curious on why he didn't go with Wario Land 2, though, since I'd imagine that the multiple branching paths and worlds designed around impediments/money hoarding (since Wario was hardy enough to just brush off everything instead of the typical healthbar-and-extra-lives setup) would have supplied a larger amount of material to work with than the comparatively straightforward WL4.
