ARCHER CITY, Texas, May 16 (UPI) --An 18-year-old Texas high school senior already has his post-graduation job lined up... Kelvin Green was sworn in as the mayor of Archer City, Texas, on Friday, becoming the youngest mayor in town history since it was founded in 1888.
http://www.upi.com/Odd_News/2014/05/16/High-school-student-sworn-in-as-mayor-of-Texas-town/3451400253399/ It's weird to see someone who is still going to school for another half month be sworn in as Mayor. I can't imagine going to school and having your classmates be like "sup mr mayor".
that is fucking awesome.
"No test today madam!" "Who says so?!" "THE MAYOR YO!"
This sounds like a pitch for a sitcom.
Well that'll look good on his resume. :P
Wasn't there a character in Parks and Recreation that was sworn in as mayor at 18?
Hopefully he can handle the job
Wasn't there a character in Parks and Recreation that was sworn in as mayor at 18?
Yep, he also completely blew it because he had no political experience
No one else entered the race, so Green won the office by default.
...
"Mandatory Xbox class instead of PE." "There will be free Mountain Dew during lunch breaks, and I promise to build more skate parks."
"Too much swag" is now considered an excused absence from school.
"Mandatory Xbox class instead of PE." "There will be free Mountain Dew during lunch breaks, and I promise to build more skate parks."
"Look at this barren wasteland... This is what will happen if you let Green in presidency. Do you want your children to have mandatory Xbox classes instead of having a choice?! Vote Mayor Redd! Stop this disgrace!"
This sounds like a pitch for a sitcom.
A terrible Disney one
Yeah when you take that into account... Also this is a really, really small city by all means. When you start looking at the numbers and everything it all makes sense. [editline]17th May 2014[/editline] Still, not many people can say they've been an actual mayor at 18.
Having that on a resume at that age would either really impress future employers or they will laugh you out of a job. Even if it's a really small town that's still quite an impressive undertaking.
Reminds me of Adam Scott's character in Parks and Recreation where, at a young age, was the mayor of a city before being impeached from office.
Let's see if this kid does as bad a job as he did. So doesn't he now control his teacher's salaries?
How many votes?
"Mandatory Xbox class instead of PE." "There will be free Mountain Dew during lunch breaks, and I promise to build more skate parks."
The mayor has no control over schools fyi
How many votes?
I believe you don't know the definition of winning by default
I believe you don't know the definition of winning by default
170% ukranians agree
The mayor has no control over schools fyi
They now do in Archer City!
I sure hope his first agenda item isn't borrowing millions of dollars to construct a full-service winter sports complex... Seriously, though. Nobody else ran, and...just look at the "city hall" in the picture. This is a meaningless podunk town, and a cocker spaniel could probably be a successful mayor. According to Wiki, it's a 2.2 square mile town of 1,800 people. The local government probably brings in enough tax money to throw a small pizza party once a year.

Don't worry guys, there used to be child-kings, and look how that turned out!... wait
I wonder if it will work out well. I'm kinda skeptical that some teenager can be a mayor properly. Though I have been surprised before. Good luck, Kelvin.

Kelvin did not want to be mayor, but they surrounded him with a knife chanting "the city must always have a mayor..."
Uhland, Texas had the same mayor AND city council for 20 years because nobody else wanted to do it. The mayor literally held the position until his death in 2007 and still nobody wanted to be mayor so his son took over as mayor pro-tempore (defacto), who also runs the water company. My mom was the city administrator for several years and I think if she hadn't been there, Uhland would have de-incorporated and been swallowed up by Kyle.
A terrible Disney one
Mayor with a Blog. Actually if Boris Johnson had a blog I'd watch the shit out of that.

It's like they couldn't think of a name so they just stuck with that. Granted calling a town Kyle is pretty fucking lazy, too.
