Indiana introduces a new bill to ban the direct sale of electric vehicles
While most states that have banned or are trying to ban Tesla’s sales model are doing it by banning direct sales of vehicles by all automakers – even those who have never had a franchise deal – Indiana is crafting a bill especially for Tesla.
Of course, it doesn’t name the company in the bill, but it might as well considering just how specifically they are targeting the automaker.
State Rep. Ed Soliday, R-Valparaiso, has filed the House Bill 1592 that bans manufacturers of “all-electric vehicles” from selling directly to consumers. That’s already enough to make Tesla the only company affected by the bill, but furthermore, it adds that it applies to automakers without franchises.
money
Holy shit. Not a bill to ban direct sales of all cars, but just electric ones. What a bunch of fucking con artists.
:scream:
I suppose they think the electricity used to power a car would be better used to do voodoo torture on people because of the gender they're attracted to.
Gotta love how it targets electric cars exclusively. They're not even trying to be subtle or pretend this isn't completely arbitrary.
Yeah, in Indiana we don't like electricity. I thought everyone knew this?
That's why we have a decent Amish population.

I thought it was enjoyed as a torture device on homosexuals?
Why won't Tesla just let third party car sellers sell their cars? From what I've seen the issue is that Tesla does not want to be a franchised seller and thereby has not the same rights as the diesel/gasoline car sellers.
They also want to be able to sell their cars directly, have their own showrooms, dealer locations and want to give test drives while being directly in contact during the purchasing process of their customers.
It seems a bit farfetched to allow all that when the same franchised car brands have to abide with no direct sales.

Unless there is some antitrust issue it's up to the vehicle manufacturer to decide how to sell their vehicles.
Ugh... Well I guess we'll have to start an electric vehicle club. Pay the price of what a tesla costs for membership and get the car for free.
That's fine Indiana, I'll just drive to Illinois and let them get my sales tax if I'm ever in the market for a Tesla.
This flies in the face of free market economics. Any republican politician who supports this is a fucking sellout
Anti-consumer, anti-manufacturer, anti-competitive, anti-free market
This is disgraceful even if you would call yourself republican
Can Tesla sue over this?
:suicide:
Goddamnit, fuck off with this bullshit. I thought you were better than this, Indiana. Wait, this guy's from Valpo. Even worse.
Don't worry. Since Elon's been rubbing elbows with Donald, I'm sure he could get him to sign an executive order. It is anti-American business after all.

It's technically going to hurt American jobs, and if there's one thing that will get Trump to action, it's the chance to tell the public he's saving American jobs.
probably to protect american jobs or something like that
Isn't Tesla based in the US?
Isn't Tesla based in the US?
Yes but the bill does not exclusively state Tesla so they save face.
Isn't Tesla based in the US?
Based in US, employs 25,000 Americans.

If you knew anything about car dealerships, you'd know why it's not something anyone should want. Unless you really enjoy predatory middle man fees and being taken advantage of at every turn by grimy car salesmen.
Oh come now, I fully sympathize with not liking electric cars but they have every right to be sold however the company making them wants to sell them so long as it doesn't violate federal laws. And Tesla follow those laws. Erego they have every right to sell cars to Hoosiers with their unique model.
Stop sucking the dealership dick, Indiana.
It's funny to see dealerships shitting themselves once they realize people are fully capable of buying a vehicle without them.

except, you know, like, Tesla's an American company :downs:
ugh I hate American politics
Whats to stop Musk from just starting a dealership company that buys from Tesla then sells the cars, technically its no longer Tesla selling direct so would that not get around this?
