I have absolutely no sympathy for westerners that go places like that to fight. You have a perfectly safe, comfortable life, and you go to fight in a war that isn't yours? It's your own fault if you get shot in the face.
I honestly can't wrap my head around why the rebels even take in these tourists. What could be more insulting than some gringo showing up with a Gopro strapped to his helmet saying "What up guys, I can rebelz with you?"

Even better they pick up that religion on their own accord, and believe that because they've done so, they must sacrifice themselves for a holy war. Most of the people who were the subjects in the video weren't born into Islam, or indoctrinated by their parents into believing they had to go to war.

Just putting it out there:
A guy who leaves his comfy privileged life in the west to go fight in a war, probably doesn't give two fucks about whether he has your "sympathy" or not.
And what could be more insulting? IDK if I'm a rebel with a shit chance of winning the war I'm probably happy to take all the help I can get. Is it any more insulting than accepting aid or weapons from governments?
If all of them would gently blow the shit out of eachother the rest of the world can work on the important stuff like science and exploring space.

On one hand it is out of the ordinary for someone to give up everything to fight in foreign land outside of your nation's military, on the other hand if they truly believe that fighting for one side is the right decision (ex. if they saw civilians being blown to hell and felt a moral obligation to fight injustice that their governments were unwilling to step in on, then I can't hold them against it. In that case its almost noble.
I would like to think they know exactly what could happen to them though and they don't just jump in because of a skewed perception of what it'll be like.
Note: I watched the video. I would agree with them more if they went to Syria to help protect civilians rather than a fairly extremist view of religious obligation, but its interesting.

I'm unsure of how it is in other European countries, but pretty much all of the Belgians who are fighting in Syria were lonely and/or vulnerable teens who were targeted by Imams who told them to go waste their life for the glory of Allah
