With no explanation, the White House has terminated members of the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS amid widespread discontent with President Trump’s approach to the epidemic. After six members of PACHA resigned in June, the White House on Wednesday terminated the remaining 16 members without explanation via a letter from FedEx. Scott Schoettes, a Chicago-based HIV/AIDS activist and senior attorney for Lambda Legal, was one of the six who resigned in June over Trump’s inaction on HIV/AIDS and said on Twitter the remaining members were fired. [...] Sources with knowledge of PACHA said many council members were fired even though additional time remained on their terms as advisers. The terminated members, sources said, were given the option to reapply after Tuesday. Gabriel Maldonado, CEO of the Riverside, Calif.,-based LGBT and HIV/AIDS group Truevolution, was a remaining member of PACHA and confirmed they were fired, but said the “explanation is still unclear.” “I can only speculate,” Maldonado said. “Like any administration, they want their own people there. Many of us were Obama appointees. I was an Obama appointee and my term was continuing until 2018.” Maldonado said “ideological and philosophical differences” with the administration are a potential reason for the terminations. As an example, Maldonado cited a recent Washington Post report the Centers for Disease Control is banned from using words like “diversity” and “transgender” in budge documents. The CDC director has denied those words are banned.
Source: The Washington Blade Disgraceful, disrespectful, and downright unnecessary.
lmao Trump wants to instill his own yes men on the council so when he makes actually retarded statements on immigrants they can back up the fact that they quote "all have aids".
did Donald Trump decided that HIV is a conspiracy now too
That, or a preemptive move on those members that would call him out on said actually retarded claims.
This is really dangerous. He's tearing apart important councils and departments one after another for his own egotistic, myopic agenda. It has to stop.
did Donald Trump decided that HIV is a conspiracy now too
Only gays get AIDS anyways /s
“I can only speculate,” Maldonado said. “Like any administration, they want their own people there. Many of us were Obama appointees. I was an Obama appointee and my term was continuing until 2018.”
sounds about normal I guess
This is really dangerous. He's tearing apart important councils and departments one after another for his own egotistic, myopic agenda. It has to stop.
or you know, he's a russian plant and he's doing as much damage as humanly possible while he still can.
sounds about normal I guess
Afaik Ajit pai was a Obama appointee.
Afaik Ajit pai was a Obama appointee.
It's more complicated.
Pai has been a commissioner at the FCC since 2012, when he was appointed by then-President Obama and confirmed by the Senate. Though an Obama appointee, Pai does not share Obama’s progressive views and is by no means someone Obama would have chosen to lead the commission. Rather, there’s a tradition of letting the minority party pick two commissioners, since the majority can only legally hold three seats; in nominating Pai — at the recommendation of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a Republican — Obama was sticking to that tradition.
Trump chose him to become chairman after McConnell put him in the FCC. [editline]aaaa[/editline] It'd be more appropriate to call Pai an Obama-era appointee.
terminated the remaining 16 members without explanation via a letter from FedEx.
This is the government equivalent of breaking up via text message
Yo Trumpy baby, just because they do work on AIDS dose not mean to say they have it, just like you being president dose not mean to say you know how to be one.
Afaik Ajit pai was a Obama appointee.
The leading party can only nominate three members of the FCC chair, so they take suggestions from the opposition. In this case, the Republicans put forward Pai as one of them and Obama accepted it. It's not like he would have had that job if Obama could choose a Democrat. Knowing Trump he probably still thinks its that gay disease from the 80s which is the decade it currently is.
Again, I can't wait for the inside scoops down the road. The constant breaking of precedents, random firing/departure of large groups of lower level employees, and rolling back of uncontested regulations all point to the administration being totally dysfunctional and breaking everything it touches.
Impeach plz
He should've fired idiots instead. Like himself.
