• [QUESTION] 4 Speaker Sound System through PC
    19 replies, posted
I have a stereo setup behind me, and also one in front where my PC is set up. I'm wondering if there's a way to line in to the stereo behind me so that I can send 2 channels of audio to that while playing another two channels in front of me. For example, a quadrophonic mixed album needs 4 speakers and I think it could be possible to play through my computer via its own stereo and another one behind me. I have the line-ins and the equipment, just not the knowledge or software in order to do this. Help me. :)
It must be possible.
Connect the front speakers to the green jack on your sound card and the rear speakers to the black jack on your sound card. Then go into the sound settings on windows, click "speakers" and then click configure, set it to quadraphonic, done. If you're unsure how to do this hit me up on steam (my profile is under my avatar to the left) and I'll see if I can guide you through it.
Didn't work, my computer crashed when trying to get audio to the rear. What exactly is the black jack meant to do?

Ahh, I'm not sure mine has those, I only have headphone, 2 mics and line in and out. Although I think it didn't work because I forgot to use the "speaker fill" option. [editline]1st May 2012[/editline] still nothing. [editline]1st May 2012[/editline] I think there is a way to make two different audio streams play through both sets of speakers.. but have no clue which settings or which software to use.
[quote] headphone, 2 mics and line in and out.[/quote] If those are all you have I wouldn't say its possible on your system. It's called a quadraphonic setup though by the way. I used to have a soundblaster live! setup with it a while ago.
I do know it's called quadraphonic but just to make it easier. I personally think it's possible to play a quad mix of an album I have. 2 streams of audio sent to headphones and the speaker output. It's like if someone wanted music playing through their speakers while talking on skype through headphones. Very sure it's possible. Obviously not a proper quad setup but still one that works.
For any speaker system I owned that had four speakers, green and black are all you needed and it wasn't rocket science. Any Sound Blaster since the Live! generally had support for up to 5.1 surround. If all else fails, get a Sound Blaster.

Just to let you know I've given up. :-)
If you wanted surround then you'll need a surround sound card [url=www.amazon.com/ASUS-Channel-Sound-Card-XONAR_DG/dp/B0045JHJSS/]Xonar DG[/url] is great for the price
-snip- Bad info
I had this exact same question, except I was wondering if I could use two amps, one for the speakers and one for the satellites? I don't have a separate sound card.
The thing is, I'm not too sure a soundcard like mine could put out two streams of audio at the same time through two line outs.

I guess you need to buy a new sound card. Or do you have some freaky soundcard that lets you hear different stuff from the headphone jack than what you hear from the speakers?
