• Theresa May: UK must leave European single market
Theresa May has said the UK "cannot possibly" remain within the European single market, as staying in it would mean "not leaving the EU at all". But the prime minister promised to push for the "greatest possible" access to the single market following Brexit. The prime minister used the speech to announce the 12 objectives the UK has set for its negotiations with the EU, including: -The final Brexit deal agreed between the EU and the UK would be voted on by both Houses of Parliament before it comes into force -The government would work to maintain the "common travel area" between the UK and Irish Republic -Ministers would work for the "freest possible" free trade -She wanted a customs agreement with the EU, but had no "preconceived position" -EU citizens would still be welcome in the UK
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-38641208 after a 30 minute 'brexit plan' speech, everyone is still unclear on what is even happening yet
The government would work to maintain the "common travel area" between the UK and Irish Republic
I hope they keep their promise on this. Trade is already going to be extremely difficult now, we don't need the political issues of a harder border in the North.
our position is 'give us a good deal or we will become a tax haven on the coast of europe'
give people an option to retain EU citizenship if they wish and itll be a much easier thing to swallow
Ho boy

Y'know, IS would be doing this country a favour right now if they targeted this witch and her minions right about now. [editline].[/editline] For the record I'm not condoning a terrorist attack, I am simply pointing out the fact that they would still do less damage than the likes of May and the Conservative party in the long term.
Y'know, IS would be doing this country a favour right now if they targeted this witch and her minions right about now.
Oh sweet jasus that's the last thing we in Ireland need now, least of all ye lot. EDIT: you do realise that'd feck everything up for everyone and the Brexit would be even harder? In that situation I wouldn't be surprised if emotions ruled over common sense and the common travel area was lost...
Y'know, IS would be doing this country a favour right now if they targeted this witch and her minions right about now.
dont cut yourself on your edge

Uh, she does realise that her plan right now is a bullet point list of what they want and not a way to implement what they want or how to get it? Now I'm really scared that the Brits are going to screw everything up and that we'll have to convince Europe to not screw us at the same time.
dont cut yourself on your edge
Fair enough, wording came across that way but I was just pointing out that for all the talk about a greater security threat the likes of IS would probably do less overall harm to the UK than May and the rest of the Conservative party has been doing these last seven years. You're welcome to prove me wrong.

That's hilarious. About as much planning as Trump has with his policies.

oh boy
I'm not up to date on the UK, but I just love when people here in poland wanna leave the union, despite the skyrocketing of just about every positive economic indicator. Even some fellow economics students, although i suppose that's the "charm" of the first year after which 70% drop out /rant

That's fucking shit. She should be working with MPs to get a representative deal.
turns out that leak of plans with "have cake + eat it" was true all along
Y'know, IS would be doing this country a favour right now if they targeted this witch and her minions right about now.
wow, you are condoning a successful terrorist attack, I have heard it all now.
I stopped listening after she said her priorities were to tackle immigration and get away from the jurisdiction of the EU courts. Blatantly using Brexit to further her own agenda and pass her disgusting human rights infringing policies without the EU meddling in her affairs [editline]17th January 2017[/editline]

Are they fucking serious? One of the biggest decisions the UK has made in decades that will affect generations and they don't even bother to publish a white paper?
I stopped listening after she said her priorities were to tackle immigration and get away from the jurisdiction of the EU courts. Blatantly using Brexit to further her own agenda and pass her disgusting human rights infringing policies without the EU meddling in her affairs
I'm unsure if we'd be able to split from the ECHR, so she's still going to be fighting the "big bad ~~~EU~" boogeyman in the form of an internationally recognised court that will not stand for her infringing shit. The EU have no fucking reason to treat us nicely with Brexit. Anyone thinking otherwise is actually deluded. We might hold the economic capital currently thanks to London, but when travel gets more restricted, and trade becomes a farce full of tariffs and dodgy deals being made in untimely manners all that shit is going to bounce the fuck out of London and into Germany ASAP. There's no reason for brokers and other financial firms to hang around when they can't just rock up to another EU country with minimal effort to trade or hold meetings. And like fuck anything we get from China or the USA is going to be remotely on par to the standards we have within the EEA, there's a shitload of quality control legislature and regulation in place to ensure that everyone gets good quality goods with minimal environmental detriment. The EEA isn't just about removing trade tariffs after all.

Can someone more familiar with UK politics explain this for me?
wow, you are condoning a successful terrorist attack, I have heard it all now.
No, I'm not condoning a terrorist attack, simply pointing out that they would probably do less harm in the long term than May.
Can someone more familiar with UK politics explain this for me?
The first stage prior to introducing a bill into parliament is to produce a white paper that outlines a problem that needs solving, and the intended solution. So rather than having clauses written in legislative language, it's more "we must do this, and this is how." Example: https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/255288/OpenPublicServices-WhitePaper.pdf
Every time Theresa May has a speech the Pound drops a bit more

Hoo boy, wonder what nefarious legislation they're sneaking through now. "Distraction brexit! Sh-sh-sha!"
