Downgrading a DSi / Installing AceKard 2i 1.4 patch without another DS

So I just got a AceKard 2i for the DSi and when I try to run it it says "An error has occurred. Press and hold the Power Button to turn the system off. Please see the DSi Operations Manual for help troubleshooting." and I can't get it to run. Apparently I need the patch for firmware 1.4, but I already have a 1.4 DSi so I can't even apply the patch. There is a fix but I need a DS light or a DS Phat. Any help downgrading a DSi or installing the firmware without another ds?
