I'm glad it's going strong, then, I really thought it was going to fail but it looks like they went very carefully about adding things in the game.
In beautiful graphics we can see here the wave-form of player count numbers (no, that’s not player heat rates after discovering weapon drops) between the dates of June and November 2013. The red line is Global Offensive, yellow and red designate Counter-Strike 1.6 and Counter-Strike Source respectively.
Two mistakes in the first few sentences. Whoever wrote this article needed to slow the hell down :v:

Accepting a set of changes is much easier when they are for the better
That sentence alone pretty much sums up CS:GO as a whole. Glad they tried and succeeded
CS:GO seemed dead a while back and just full of Russians and Danish people I can't understand. Is it better nowadays then?

It still is good.
I think what we’re looking at here, ladies and gentlemen, is pretty conclusive proof that the weapon monetisation tactic was a resounding success.
Pretty shitty journalism right here folks. That spike in November is actually because of DreamHack 2013 going on. It's still got another day to go tomorrow.
CS:GO actually hit a peak of 75K+ players today due to DreamHack: http://steamdb.info/graph/730/
If we were actually talking about just the impact of Arms Deal, then PCGN is several months late on that front anyways.
Counter Striker
RIP 1.6 elitists
Pretty sure it was also due to the fact that it was 4 dollars today, but I guess it's this too.
I hope the next counter-strike is more akin to CS 1.6

waaah waaaah i want my op deagle back, change is bad :(

just play source if you're that anal about csgo really

I just got it. Hopefully I don't regularly hear stuff like "You will never experience the real CS:GO".
Funniest thing is i quit after that update, skins ruin games like this.
Funniest thing is i quit after that update, skins ruin games like this.
They are just cosmetic though? Where do they destroy the gameplay?
Funniest thing is i quit after that update, skins ruin games like this.
you mean they ruin it by changing nothing about the game mechanically?
It's just aesthetic change

It's very distracting for me, i've always hated it in cs. Then again i quite like it in dota. I just don't think cs is the right game for things like this.
Doesn't this also mean that we have to store umpteen novelty textures on our drives?

you got me, the only reason i like 1.6 the most is because the deagle is OP, you're amazing dude, how do you do it

spot-on speculation is my secret

Your argument is very, very weak. Additionally your problem is easily solvable.
Doesn't this also mean that we have to store umpteen novelty textures on our drives?
They are only added by Valve. They're not like, custom.
And the average novelty texture is about.. two MB?
I've been playing CS:GO since the beta and I have to agree that it's a lot more fun now since the arms deal. The items provide an incentive to play more.
Your argument is very, very weak. Additionally your problem is easily solvable.
wtf are you talking about, my "argument"
I'm stating my opinion not trying to convince others to agree with it.
you mean they ruin it by changing nothing about the game mechanically?

Look at what the hat economy did to TF2, while in gameplay they're purely cosmetic, they made a pretty drastic change to the community.
And in the case of CSGO's skins they also completely shafted modding which used to be a big deal in CS games.
Played 7 competitive games last night. Not a single fucking drop.
cs go is the best online game ever

have you hit your weekly drop limit? it's 4 drops per week
i never understood 1.6 elitists. from my point of view, the differences between 1.6 and source are negligible
I hope the next counter-strike is more akin to CS 1.6
Heres an idea:
Play 1.6
Heres an idea:

Let's be honest though, CS:GO is much more similiar to CS 1.6 than CS:S ever was
Only thing I dearly miss is almost complete lack of wallbanging
I'll stay away from it as long as I have to pay money for a game with microtransactions in it
