Yeah, with a BIOS update it should support AM3.

you won't need to do anything with thermal paste, there's some preapplied on the stock heatsink that comes with the CPU
update bios, take heatsink off, take CPU out, put new CPU in, put new heatsink on
AMD Athlon 64 x2 q6600 does not exist, unless you melted them together with a blow torch.
