• Upgrading my CPU.

I see that there are threads like mine. But as in all of them, i need to be sure i'm doing this right and don't fuck it up. I want to upgrade my cpu as it seems to be the only thing lacking at the moment. It's a Dual core amd athlon 64 x2 6000. And i was hoping to upgrade to this :http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-244-AM So do you think it will work ? Specs: asus m2n-sli deluxe motherboard (http://uk.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=szSFtrap7crpBaQE&content=specifications) 6GB DDR2 Ram. Vista 64bit. ATI Radeon HD 5830. I can give you more details if needed. Thanks!
Yeah, with a BIOS update it should support AM3.
M2N-SLI DELUXE BIOS 5001 1.Beta Bios for Supporting AM3 CPUs 2.System still able to POST when set CPU Multiplier to 35X, but actual frequency will not change 3.Due to chipset limitation, Max HTT is 1000MHz only. Note: Remove the function of Full-Screen Logo , LAN PXE , Instant Alarm. For example ? Also is it really as easy as putting the new cpu in/Thermal gel and the new bios updates ? 3 easy steps.
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/190673 get it here, the support at overclockers isn't very good and you'll get free delivery as the order is >£50 you won't need to do anything with thermal paste, there's some preapplied on the stock heatsink that comes with the CPU update bios, take heatsink off, take CPU out, put new CPU in, put new heatsink on
AMD Athlon 64 x2 q6600 does not exist, unless you melted them together with a blow torch.
Wow, Thank you very much for the information reapa. Hope you all have a good christmas. Also if anybody would want my old processor (there is nothing wrong with it, just too slow to run my games on max). I can't find a definitive link but here is what everest shows http://img716.imageshack.us/i/95843074.jpg/. Let me know and as soon as my pc is up and running with my new cpu i'll ship it out to you!
