• Windows is requiring a username/password for a share with none

I set up a samba share on one of my linux boxes that doesn't require a username/password to connect. I can connect to it fine from one of my other computers (running Linux) but i can't connect to it using my computer running Windows 7. When I try to connect to the share windows asks for a username/password, even though none exist. Any suggestions? [editline]05:18AM[/editline] problem solved
Can you post the solution? I've had this issue in the past.
there was no solution really, only a work around i had to make a user account for the share, windows doesn't accept blank usernames/passwords for connecting to shares
Windows 7 requires a user unless you are in the same home group, You can edit a registry setting and then it works. Cant remember what the link was, but that's how I fixed the issue. Google around some?
there was no solution really, only a work around i had to make a user account for the share, windows doesn't accept blank usernames/passwords for connecting to shares
Incorrect, although it's not exactly intuitive. You'll need admin access for this solution: Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Local Security Policy. Expand Local Policies > Security Options Scroll down to "LAN Manager authentication level", open the policy and change the dropdown to this: Send LM & NTLM responses Scroll down further to "Minimum session security for NTLM SSP..." (there may be 2, one for clients and one for servers), open the policy(s) and disable the option for this: Require 128-bit encryption You should now be able do it without a password.
