Because since people have waited 14 years they wanted to get it to people as soon as possible, also not to act like a dick and delay the European release just so North America can get it first.
They better tell us if it's good or not.

I think it had something to do with shipping times and it would be more optimal if it shipped on the 14th in NA.

Episode 3 will never be released. I am pretty sure they are just going to do Half-life 3 next.
