My friend really wants a camcorder, but he's on a kind of tight budget.
He really likes Canon lenses and he wants to be able to record in noticeable high definition 1080p. He's going to be using it to record stuff like dances, so he wants it to be able to track fast movements without blur.
He is really open to any kind of suggestions, except for Flip HD's, unless you can REALLY convince him.

I got a Flip HD for Christmas and while being satisfied with it I agree that he shouldn't look into it. Especially with his high budget.
That's all I know about cameras v:v:v
Kodak Playsport is very good. The Flip HD is overated.
The Playsport has cool shit like
- 720p/60
- 1080p/30 <------
- 3 meters waterproof w/ underwater filter thing
- Electronic Image Stabilisation<-----
- 3 hours battery life
- HDMI, RCA and USB support
- ~$400 - $500 <-----
- SD support
- 5MP stills
I use it and I don't even do much sport / do much physical exercise / have much of a social life.
Only has digital zoom though, but you can't get much for ~$500
Flip is only about $120 USD though, it is overrated but for the price I think it is decent.
I can't find anything decent that does 1080p and is below the $500 mark. A lot of what I do find is commodity shit.
Rasie the bar though and I would recommend either the older Canon Rebel T1i or the newer T2i. They are DSLR's but they still do a good job at 1080p videos.
you won't get noticable good HD for $500
