Yup, you read the title right...
CNN: A British researcher discovers that the Xbox chip can help fight heart disease. CNN's Josh Levs reports - 9/26/2009
they better not get the red rings of death

Can't wait for a company to see this and spread brain tumors through their cool new gaming console.
What was up with the shelf of dead 360s?! Like they were making a point or something...
That is too awesome.

What?
Excellent use for hardware that is relatively cheap, I hope this gets somewhere!

?
Well, at least there's something that can be done with the dead Xbox 360's...
Which is a lot of them!
:rimshot:
Isn't this just GPU Acceleration? For example the same as using CUDA/Stream or DirectCompute?
If so, this is a rather late discovery by the researcher...
i demand a source. CNN is not enough.
Next people would start taking apart a DS :geno:
PS3 used to house small African nation.
Folding@Home?

Oh? CNN is not enough?
Would you rather have THE SUN?

:downsrim:
That is extremely retarded... Why the Xbox? Just buy a fucking CPU on the side, what the fuck. A more powerful CPU can easily cost less than the Xbox. The person that discovered this must have no understanding of computers nor hardware.
So, the gameconsoles are now both, the cause and the cure for heart attacks?
lol @ 2:58.
Why not use a PS3?
So, the gameconsoles are now both, the cause and the cure for heart attacks?
It's a health care conspiracy :tinfoil:
What was up with the shelf of dead 360s?! Like they were making a point or something...
It's part of the manufacturing process, Note the USB connections on the front.
This is when the core dashboard software is loaded and suchlike.
Why not use a PS3?
ITT: PS3 fanboy.
It says something that the hardware for entertainment systems is better than the hardware used to save lives.
Consoles being powered effect on game developers: "Hurr what is optimization? :downs:"

If they can fight heart disease with the processing power of a 360, they could probably cure cancer and AIDS with the Cell processor in a PS3.
Not bagging it out, Saying it's great but PS3 has been doing this since 2006, Folding@Home. How come no-one has reported on that?
What the fuck? disagree, I Said it's great I'm just asking why has no-one reported on the PS3 doing it?
Not bagging it out, Saying it's great but PS3 has been doing this since 2006, Folding@Home. How come no-one has reported on that?
Because Sony h8s taiwanese people
Oh boy, the Xbox fanboys are going to go all over this.
But what? As previously stated here it just sounds like they are just really far behind on their software. Plus using a bunch of Xbox 360's is not very stable given that over 20% of them has got the red ring of death.
Hell, we've had it happen 2 times.

Because the PS3 is better at folding and the Xbox is better at solving heart problems.
They obviously tested it or else it would be fucking stupid to say that you have made a discovery and it isn't true.
