The Army is ordering its hardened combat veterans to wear fake breasts and empathy bellies so they can better understand how pregnant soldiers feel during physical training ...
What do you all think about this?
TO me ... This does nothing. IT really does pale in comparison to what women do go through if they want to get back into shape. I'm not saying there should be additional empathizer tools, I'm saying that this is a double fail because it's a piss poor attempt at "solving" a piss poor argument.

Wha-...I-...what?
This seems ridiculous to me.
I'd say it's at least an effort to give soldiers a sense of perspective in case of misogyny and stuff, but I don't have much moral authoriy on the subject
I honestly never heard of a pregnant female soldier before. Why would you join the army when you have to take care of yourself with a baby inside you? Like being in the army can be mentally damaging which is something that a pregnant woman should go through considering that their emotions are more fragile (don't know how to explain it). So yeah this looks very pointless.
Pregnant soldiers should not be on military duty. Or if in training, they should be sent home.
I can't imagine why a pregnant soldier would be deployed / deployed straight away after giving birth...
I think it sounds like something out of a sitcom, and most likely the soldier's using them will just make jokes about it and won't take it seriously at all.
I didn't even know they allowed pregnant women to do stuff, I thought they would get some sort of maternity leave
Hah, right. Like the only thing separating women from men are their breasts and large bellies.
Meanwhile, the Army is forcing recruits to watch really bad cable TV to help them have empathy for their Air Force compatriots.
Great job not posting the article itself, makes it seem a lot worse than it is. Instead you've posted a video of someone else's opinion on it.
From the actual article:
Developed by the Army in 2008, the course includes aerobics classes, pool sessions and classroom studies on the physiology of pregnant women. The NCOs learn special exercises for pregnant women, who shouldn’t push themselves too hard or participate in high-impact activities such as snowboarding, bungee jumping or horse riding, York said.
During the training, each NCO must wear the pregnancy simulator for at least an hour.
“When they first come in, the males are typically timid and don’t feel they have the knowledge to teach female soldiers,” she said. “However, after three days their confidence rises.”
This is for NCOs who are going to be dealing with exercise for pregnant soldiers and new mothers, if they have some kind of experience with these physical conditions they're better suited to guide them. It's not a big deal.
In addition:
The program, which is mandatory for pregnant soldiers, was set up to get them back to their units quickly after they give birth, according to Staff Sgt. Latoya Nieves-Gonzales, who is helping York train the NCOs at Camp Zama.
It exists to aid pregnant soldiers in re-adjusting to physical strain so they can get back to work, and this program is to make sure that the instructors know how to handle it.
In short, the OP is begging sensationalism and anger.

So for our Female NCOs who are going to be dealing with men... They should a shock shlong
[editline]22nd February 2012[/editline]
you know... so they can empathize
I can't imagine why a pregnant soldier would be deployed / deployed straight away after giving birth...
I thought that legally NO business could do that. Isn't there a period after birth that the mother is legally entitled to?

It's not even a valid comparison. Men have penises all of their life, it doesn't inhibit them. Women are pregnant for only 9 months a time and go through many physical changes. If they are soldiers they need time while pregnant or after just having a baby to re-adjust to physical strain, and so it's good to have these programs.
uh A. this is fucking stupid and B. why are pregnant women serving in the military
i think it's fair to assume you shouldn't be assuming a military role when you're PREGNANT

Why not? You can't be deployed while pregnant, so what's the problem?
But 1½ of a solder is better than 1.
Yeah, they can use the babies as a little recon units to explore small spaces, kind of like the Q-spider in James bond.
Q-babies.
Wow like ten posts about "gee why would a pregnant woman be in the military."
It even says in the video that it's to emphasize with a formerly pregnant woman getting back into shape.
Still a retarded concept though.

Not just for empathizing with those women, but helping the NCOs who will be working with them better understand how a pregnant or formerly pregnant woman would deal with exercise.

this thread has a stupid premise.
and of course they fucking have pregnant soldiers?
they don't kick you out of the military.
You should not be allowed to server if pregnant, you are endangering another human.

i'm pretty sure that it's not like pregnant people are patrolling in humvees and defusing IEDs. not all of the military has a combat role.
