Someone I know wants a computer, but can only afford $500 right now. It needs to include EVERYTHING. Monitor, OS, keyboard and mouse, speakers, computer.
Here's what I have so far: http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=20512228
Anything I'm missing like good combos?
Also, the reason it doesn't have a graphics card is because it's only going to be used for basic stuff, no games or anything very graphical for that matter.
Ok, working on it.

$507 before shipping/rebates. Speakers are built into the monitor. Should be good for office work. The PSU allows enough headroom to upgrade in future. If he wants to watch HD Youtube or something he is going to need a video card. At least get this then: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102829R

I approve of this build.
$500 for a PC with OS and monitor? Woo buddy that's a tough one.
Is $500 enough for an excellent gaming PC? Not the monitor and all that good stuff. Just the CPU and graphics card type of stuff, the guts of my computer.
Hey OP, get Linux for the OS since it's free. Your friend can upgrade to Windows later on once he gets the money for it. That is if he wants to. I read on one of the major Linux websites that Linux can do most of the basic stuff that Windows can do.

So, all you want for $500 would be the Motherboard, Ram, GPU, CPU, PSU, and HDD, right?

I don't want that stuff. I just hear that you can build your own gaming PC for like $500. Just want to know if that's enough money to buy the components that can run a game like Crysis and maybe a case as well. The keyboard, speakers, and monitor is all just extras.
It doesn't even have to run Crysis. It just have to be able to handle most FPS game that have come out in recent years. $500 for PC like that would sure beat the hell out of buying a $2000 Alienware.
$500 build could run Crysis on 1440x900 or so (just the case and internals). With that you could fit in a 4870, 9800GX2, GTX460 maybe. Just pair it up with a AthlonII quad.
